Why do people in europe wear horseshoe necklaces?

when i was in romania and the ukraine i saw some women wearing necklaces with horseshoes on it. why do they wear them?

  1. Well here horse shoes are a sign of luck

    so if you wear them on a necklace then luck is with you all the time

    =)
