Why do people in tall office buildings have parachutes in their office?

Is this because of the tragedy of September 11, 2001? So in case a fire or something they can jump out of their window?

Umm, if True, don't you think the reason would be obvious.

Yes it is.

The sad truth is many people knew they were going to die because they were stuck above where the planes hit and they had the choice to burn or jump and as burning is painful and takes longer, many chose to jump. Which is why people have parachutes now.

Not nessacarily because of 9/11 but the fact it happened helped push the importance of needing parachutes.

And yes, because of fires or other emergencies.
