  1. I don't think they "insist" on it. Life just happens. The things that we enjoy as humans the most all happen to be bad for us. And guess what, even if you try your best to take good care of your body, you will still die just like everyone else. Personally, I have reached an age where my appearance is not the most important thing. Truly, it is better to be a happy, good person than look like a movie star. (I mean look at the models and stars of today and they look so skinny, they are scarey!) So enjoy and live for today---we have no guarantee of tomorrow or even our next breath.

  2. By creating a new image of their body, it tends to help them relieve some inner pain they may be harboring.

People might get a tattoo to help them get over the loss of a loved one, they may have some strange body o*****e pierced in order to remind themselves of the pains they have gone through in life, or they may surgically alter themselves to change the person they see in the mirror because it doesn't remind them of the person they used to be.

These are guesses, but whatever reason they may have, it's ultimately their decision.

  3. "insist", or cajoled?

  4. i guess that is their who choice.

we Need to live and let live.

  5. Self loath.

  6. That is a relative term.  Some would argue that not getting enough sun, eating no meat, exercising to excess, eating too much, not eating enough, etc are all ways of "ruining" a body.  Ultimately, it's your body, and I argue you should be able to ruin it if you want to, and pay the consequences for your choices.  You can't legislate or regulate human behavior to that degree since everyone's definition of how to live is different. It's just one of those realities of life that no matter what you do, you aren't going to get out of life alive, and I sure don't want to be one of those health nuts lying in a hospital someday dying of nothing.
