Because connecting to a swinger's club provides a couple considering swinging an existing community with agreed upon ground rules.  It is considered safer for a new couple to join an established community than to try to find couples on their own.  With established ground rules, the chances of miscommunication are reduced.  It also means that if they find they don't like it after all, they haven't come out to all their friends.
