I am wondering about betas mostly, don't they have a lot of eggs? you wouldn't keep them ALL would you? and if you do sell them how do you go about doing that? could you sell them to a pet store? I just want to know generally how it works. thanks in advance, (and since people seem to really like doing so, if you are going to be an a** please do it some where else, ok? ok.)

  1. there some people do sell them. But some people may give them away to Friends or family.there are a few people that keep all the fry in a fish room or some just do not breed them.

  2. Reasons vary.  Bettas really don't lay a lot of eggs compared to South American cichlids and many gourami species in which the eggs can number a thousand or more.

Some fry will die naturally.  Sick, deformed, and weak fish must be culled out periodically.  These are often used for food for other fish being kept, or possibly plant fertilizer, or simply flushed.

Healthy young can usually be traded to a pet store for credit, most won't buy them outright.  Of course that's only for fish they normally can't get from a wholesaler, so common fish aren't big on their list.

  3. Nobody will buy fry due to the liability involved.  When so young, they are very sensitive, and even transporting them is very risky.  Generally, the people breeding Bettas efficiently have a lot of space, a lot of time, and a lot of money.  They cull most of the fry very quickly, only bothering to raise the most perfect of the batch to adulthood, and then selling them at very high prices.
