Why do people laugh at you when someone mocks you or says something else about you?

I think some of it is the whole "pack mentality". Sometimes people are very insecure and the only way they know how to feel better about themselves is by mocking other people and I think the reason other people laugh is because they're probably relieved they're not the ones being mocked.

There are many people out there who are just plain mean as well and were not raised to be kind to others, which is just very sad. If you are the one being mocked, you can either laugh along with the people or just walk away and let it slide off your back like it means absolutely nothing to you and not give them the satisfaction of knowing that you're even listening to them.

Some people laugh to maintain lightheartedness, especially if they think the person may get their feelings hurt for being mocked.

Others laugh from pure jealousy, it makes them feel awesome for the person their jealous of to get mocked and feel stupid.

Others laugh at the great imitator, it sounds funny coming from someone else.

if it's a joke among friends u mean at a kickback or something then it's just a joke... if it's strangers then they're doing it to offend u or mock u in a hurtful way.. what u can do is defend yourself but if it's not that serious just ignore it and just have fun.. people always provoke in ways that sometimes are intentional or just in the moment...

People all laugh because they dont want to be next to be singled out by not laughing.  People are weak and not raised right.

bcoz laughter is a human response to something really ridiculous and needs to be responded to immediately but the brain has not figured out how to properly respond to it.

Easier way to put it would be like they are babies and dont know how to react appropriately when they see someone being mistreated.

Because those people are immature.

And those people need to realize that when there laughing at other people and talking behind other peoples backs, its more likely that other people are doing the exact same thing to them. Its life :P

Also they do it to look cool and make other people laugh its there way of defending themselves and feeling "better" about themselves. :P

But it happens to everyone at one point in life ! :)

Its typical Peer pressure stuff. they want to be in the inn crowd so they do things that they think that will make them feel "cooler" to their peers.
