Why when someone has something nice they let it fall apart and go to waste? Houses, cars, etc. some people get them and they let them fall apart and go to waste. One of the historic houses in my old neighborhood was once very beautiful. My mom tells me the story of the nice neighbor who lived there and took care of the house. She had a wishing well that pumped real water,a yellow brick road leading to the garage,a kitchenette apartment in the heated garage,a wood carousel,a swing set, bird houses, and beautiful flower beds. Her sons rented the kitchenette apartment in the backyard. My mom tells me how she loved when Ms.Mary Whitfield would let her play in her yard and let her walk on the yellow brick road and loved looking at the wishing well. The neigborhood was once for whites only and my grandparents were the first black family to move on the block.Ms.Whitfield loved her house and refused to sell and she said she wasn't a bigot. But then as the neighborhood became more black they began to

  1. Apparently the people who moved in thought the house was just OK and they wanted it different.  What you thought was great, apparently, they didn't like.  Peoples tastes are different.

My question is why, if you don't like the house, would you buy it?  It is a shame that someone bought the old place and ruined it.

  2. Because people have no pride in their possession anymore. They are lazy, won't take care of anything. They think, "oh well, there is more where this came from".  Probably is too, they probably don't have to work for what they have.  This has became a throw away society, and people had better wise up.

  3. lack of respect for things others have done.  lack of money, lack of imagination. lack of respect for themselves,  a lack of respect for the history that built their town.  And that is why some folks don't want "others" to move into their neighborhoods.  They come from a different background and have no respect for the other people who built the neighborhood they wanted to move to.  I have a friend who lives in a very nice community with tiny  jewel box yards.  Orientals moved in across the street and pay absolutely no attention to their yards.  They are never mowed, edged or watered and it brings the whole neighborhood down.  They are rich people but too cheap to hire a yard man to do it, and many have knocked on their door.  It is more important to them to amass their fortune than to have a beautiful home.  They don't fit in and don't want to.  They bought it because it was beautiful, but mostly because it was close to the store they own.  They will not spend a penny on paint or anything else, and are letting that beautiful home fall apart.  The homeowners association has sued them and may foreclose just to maintain the place.  Thank goodness they have that option!
