Why do people lie about the smallest things?

This goes to the liars...I understand that to get out of sticky situations lying is necessary, but some people, they just lie? Why? Not exaggeration like lies. Not entertaining lies, just lies. Some people lie about stealing things, doing things they did do, and they blame it on others? People who do this:WHY? Why would you do that? Do you have no morals? Seriously, what do you gain from lying? I've gained a lot from the telling the truth, but I've also lost a lot more than what I've gained, and I don't regret it and I won't lie to balance out my gains. I lie sometimes when I don't want people to know me, or to get into my business, but lying about stupid stuff...it's pointless, why do you do it? Is it a sickness?

  1. ...i do it at times to get into trouble, other times to get what i want...

...either way it works...and i got used to doing it often too...

    ...are we talking about s*x...hehehehehe...

  2. It's a sickness.

I'm not a liar,  But I was. I was raised by liars. Then one day, I met a person who told the truth. Absolutely. With no embellishment whatsoever. And I was amazed, because everyone liked him. I decided to be like him, and guess what, It was freaking hard! I was so used to it, it was almost reflex.

So, to answer your specific question, Yes. It is a sickness. Its called Mythomania. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathologica... I'm being serious.

I checked into this link, and maybe you should too. Its for people involved with or surrounded by pathological liars.  http://www.healthyplace.com/Radio/articl...

the thing is, people lie to other people so often that people just accept it. People lie to get out of things. To cover up little things. To make themselves seem better. The reason why this is a sickness, is because I truly believe that it is contagious. When people lie to make themselves seem 'cooler' then other people either have to admit that they are broke, or haven't done such-and-such, or don't really like blah-blah-blah, or... they have to lie, just to have common ground with someone who is lying in the first place.

I've gained everything from realizing that lying isn't natural. The saying "Everybody Lies," is devestatingly harmful and should be banned. Because it is definately wrong. It rips the security from the Lie-ee (person being lied to.)

  3. I think people lie because they either want to actually believe what they are saying or they have been doing it so much they don't know they are.  I have two examples: my b/f lied about breaking a knife because it was missing and he was using it for something other than its purpose. I found it unbroken in a can.  I asked him about it and he totally blocked the question.  The other lie he keeps telling me and others is He wrote on my *** with a pen so I drew a p***s on his back so he lies to me and everyone that he was asleep when I did it and he knows good and well he was awake.

  4. My guess is...  that they are just liars.... I could be wrong..... but.....

  5. I guess it just come very easy for them. But if you don't practice being a liar, then you have nothing to worry about.
