Why do people like ESPN so much?

I just started living in my college dorm and I don't understand the fascination everyone on my floor has with sports. I like to a football game every sunday but their interest is so much deeper and I just don't get it. My roommate has it on 24/7 and I'm stuck here on yahoo answers!!
