  1. The same reason some people like Britney Spears or the Smurfs or Beethoven or Captain Beefheart PERSONAL TASTE.

  2. Just because a band is 'better' than Metallica doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to Metallica.  By this thinking, you'd have to decide the ONE band overall better than any other band and listen to just 'that' one band!  That would be ignorant wouldn't it?  People who "..like Metallica so much.." do so for the same reason some people like "...Rush so much.."  or The Who, or Jonas Brothers (lol).  It's a 'connection' between you and the music.  You will connect with some bands and like them.  Other bands you won't find a connection with but that doesn't mean that someone else can't find a connection with them.  Yes, lots of bands are better than Metallica.  Lots of bands are worse.  Neither has anything to do with the connection, the listener or the MUSIC.  :)  peace

  3. Have you listened to Master of Puppets?  That is why people like them so much.  The music just might not grab like it does other people.  I have that issue with Tool.  Try as I might I just cannot get into them like other people do.

  4. I like them because they're Pioneers of Speed Metal. In the early to mid 80's no one did it like Metallica.

  5. metallica was good. they suck now. end of story. people are just stuck in the past...they think that since they were die hard fans in the past that they have to stay true and love all the S****y music they put out today.

    thanks TD's :)

  6. I dont get the question....?

    What do you mean?

  7. Fitzwell brings up the point.

If you have ANY musical knowledge whatsoever, you realize that Mater of Puppets was essentially COMPOSED, not written.

The Bass lines in Orion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzMJhOwBL... are transcendant.  In fact it is so well written that they were able to blend the San Fransisco Symphony into it seamlesly.

And particularly on there Ride the Lightning, masters and Justice, Metallica tackeld large issues like the Death Penalty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uebInqG1p... Corruption in Government http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfoDh1XL2... , Mental Health http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WElvEZj0L... , War http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUQz_eTe4... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwW9L_qzq... and the Corrupt Religion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfZaI1o11... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QxFAx7BI... and the Environment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OSEnkKVj... in a manner that earned them the Moniker "Thinking Mans Metal".

While I do not deny thieir more recent stuff has lacked the impact and depth of their earlier work, their first 4-5 albums were amzing form a technical standpoint, from a lyrical standpoint and from the fact that they Originated Thrash metal.  Most of the Metal bands people idolize today would not have existed without Metallica paving the way.

IF you don't get it after this..honestly..just give it up, because you never will understand.  It's really just that simple.

And actually..METALHEADS loved metallica in the early/mid 80s (I was there) but the mainstream poser movemnet hadn't embraced them yet.

*Condesation (which i just brutalized) is definitely not the goal..but speaking as a Musician, their early work was technically, and creatively brilliant.  I STILL can't wrap myself around some of Cliff's basslines.  And, even though I am not enamored of their newer stuff as much...often time when breaking itdown, James still amazes me with some of the riffs he produces.  If I came across patronizing, it would have been due to the phrasing of your quesion  which definitley has that "ewww" type of vibe.  As for Better bands.. that is subjective, but I won't disagree.  But few of those "Better" bands have recorded 4 of the albums universally considered amongst the most important ever in Heavy Metal, and 4 that could easily fall into almost any top 25 list ever.

Just my thoughts, have fun and stay metal.

    **EDIT 2..HOLY CRIPES I CAN'T TYPE!!!!

  8. They had a lot of good songs. I'm kind of sick of them though because I've heard them so many times. However, they are ridiculously over-rated and Lars Ulrich just sucks on drums.

  9. their first 4 albums are just brilliant. sure they're c**p now, but those first few albums just had some magic in them. the essence of thrash metal idk, its very alluring

  10. Do they really? Are you quite sure about that?

  11. Everyone likes Metallica because of me!  The best drummer alive!

  12. Their older metal stuff was amazing. Songs such as "Enter Sandman" and "For Whom The Bell Tolls" were epic.

But the new Metallica stuff really sucks, they changed.
