Question:

Why do people like Twilight?

I read the first two a year ago just to see what the big deal was, and I hated both of them. To me they seemed very corny, unrealistic, immature and so redundant. It almost felt like the entire series was just some wish-fulfillment gimmick for p*****n fangirls obsessed with "vampires" (...since when did 'vampires' become sparkly, sensitive supermodels? Whatever happened to Dracula?)

Yet, people seem so into them, even obsessed. What is it that they like so much? Also, if you are someone who enjoys this series, what other books do you like?

I'm genuinely curious here. Don't be rude.

  1. I like twilight its awesome i think im obsessed with vampire books its all i read lol. i love how authors make their own way of vampires. but i like these books better :

Qirque De Freak or i other countrys The Saga Of Darren Shan

  2. Well, for those other comments, I'm a teenage girl, I don't have a boyfriend, I never had a serious one, and I hate Twilight.

    Just saying.

Stephenie Meyer is an awful writer. God, am I sick of those books.

But to answer your question... almost everyone who likes the book either wants to marry Edward or can relate to Bella. Which is ridiculous, because Edward is an uncaring, selfish, annoying character. And Bella is the whiniest, weakest, stupidest  (at least for a so-called 'smart' teenager girl) narrator in the history of literature. She is so boring and flat that I fell asleep reading those books.

  3. Okay, i totally LOVE the Twilight series, and i also love:

    Twilight series, by Stephenie Meyer

    Peeps, by Scott Westerfeld

Maximum Ride series, by James Patterson

Crooked, by Laura and Tom McNeal

Pretty Little Devils, by Nancy Holder

Love and Other Four-Letter Words, by Carolyn Mackler

the Bartimaeous Trilogy, by Jonathon Stroud

    Just Listen, by Sarah Dessen

the Truth About Forever, by Sarah Dessen

I really want to read: This Lullaby, by Sarah Dessen

City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare

To Catch a Pirate, by Jade Parker

    The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton

Vampire Academy series, by Richelle Mead

The Body of Christopher Creed, by Carol Plum-Ucci

Hattie Big Sky, by Kirby Larson

Dealing With Dragons, by Patricia C. Reed

    Fablehaven, by Brandon Mull

    Princess Academy, by Shannon Hale

    Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson

  4. I don't know why everyone loves the Twilight Saga, I'm thirteen and hate it. I think the Dracula type of vampires are a lot better too. At the very least you can't have a vampire be like a supermodel, it just seems so unrealistic to me...

  5. I understand why some people don't like it. I'll especially admit that the "sparkly" factor is really lame, but the supermodel thing is so that they appeal to their prey, I suppose. To make it easier to suck human's blood.

I suppose it is wish-fulfillment in a way, you're right. Girls who love romance movies enjoy the exceedingly perfect Edward Cullen, although he's also really controlling and overreacts at a lot of things.

It's a bit difficult to say exactly why you like a book, but I do love the Twilight series, personally.

Other books? I enjoy almost anything. Harry Potter is another favorite. I also enjoy Blood and Chocolate, Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, A Walk To Remember), A Series of Unfortunate Events, a bit of horror although I prefer horror movies...I personally love a huge variety of books. Realistic fiction, fantasy, horror especially.

  6. Hello Everyone.

I'm reading the second book now - Eclipse. I love it as much as I love Twilight. I do realize that the books are corny and are for the younger audience but I still can't resist :) And I see no harm in getting into something like these books just to take a break from my serious adult life. I'm 30 by the way. And I don't consider myself to be a looser when it comes to relationships; i've got some experience - good and bad.

Hey, it's just fiction, right? It's supposed to be fun and entertaining. And the Twilight series is just that. And I personally like that the Twilight vampires are so different from the classical types, that they are good and gorgeous. Bella does annoy me often, but who am I to judge? I've never been in love with a beautiful vampire :)

Other books I love: F.M.Dostoevsky "The Idiot", "Crime and Punishment", "The Brothers Karamazov", L.Tolstoy "War and Peace", "Anna Karenina", Nabokov "Lolita", many many other Russian literature classics, "The Catcher in the Rye" J. D. Salinger, John Galsworthy "The Forsyte Saga", Guy de Maupassant his novels and short stories,"The Lord of the Rings" by J. R. R. Tolkien, J.K.Rowling "Harry Potter" series, everything of Jane Austen.

I read some philosophical, spiritual and psychological literature. I read about Buddhism a lot.

So here you go. I think that not only teens and shallow people love the Twilight series.

    Peace. Love

  7. Second answer is right. All the Twilight fans I have talked to have either never had a boyfriend, have a boyfriend but aren't happy, and cannot get over a heartbreak. It's sad really...

Even if I didn't have a boyfriend, I'd still hate the series simply because it's horribly written.

  8. To make a point: Since when has Dracula been realistic? It's not; it's fiction, just like Twilight is. It's just a different sort.

For the record: I've read most of the Twilight series on a recommendation, and yes, I thought that they were corny. But they're intended to be teen fiction. Read anything labeled as such (or anything labeled 'romance', whatever) and it's all like that. It's for entertainment. Literature plays on human emotions and experiences, and romance is one of the most exciting and interesting types. Essentially, writers capitalize on what interests people, and sure, love is interesting to most.

It seems to me that Twilight in particular interests people because it combines that classic romance storyline with an edgier 'dangerous' side (vampires) that makes it a bit more exciting than your average romance novel.

To summarize: Yes, the books may be corny, unrealistic, immature, etc. but they're for kids, they're just for fun; nobody ever really claimed that the books were intended to be advanced, classic literature.

I'm genuinely trying to answer here, trying to provide somewhat of an explanation (based on my opinion, of course), so please don't think I'm simply trying to be argumentative.

  9. Good Question.

I read the first one and lost interest. I'm not a fan of series.

  10. a lot of people just like different stuff okay? to me its not corny. its a really good series that has a meaning. its a FICTION book. vampires dont always have to be like dracula. you could make up new things. it makes sense. i dont know how explain what im thinking right now but the fact that so many people say it doesnt make sense, doesnt make sense. stephenie meyer wrote it for HERSELF. not for you or for anyone else. its how she wanted it to be. its pretty good for someones first book that is always so busy with her children. but i agree that some people are too obsessed. i love the series but i read other books. sure, i read them over and over but thats because i dont really have other books and i love to read. i agree with katie though.

    other books i like are

inkheart and inkspell by cornelia funke

    dragon rider by cornelia funke

eragon and eldest by christopher paolini

a great and terrible beauty and rebel angles by libba bray

firestorm (i dont know by who)

warrior heir (dont know by who)

gossip girls (also dont know by who)

    harry potter by J.K. Rowling

and a whole bunch of others.

  11. well, personally, i loved them.

i admire authors who can make you believe in something that was otherwise not believed in. personally, i think that edward was much more realistic than dracula. (i've read both.)

i also know that it did get corny in parts, but it was fiction. but i think that the corny parts were necessary in creating the passion that the characters felt. =)

  12. The only people I have seen becoming literally OBSESSED with these books are all the same:  girls (or women) with low self-esteem, who have either never had a boyfriend/have not gotten over a heartbreak/are unsatisfied with their current relationships.

The only possible way that someone could become so dedicated to this series is if they pretend that they are Bella, which is pathetic on many different levels.

  13. i dont know??? i like it but the question I ask is WHY IN THE WORLD DO PEOPLE LIKE HARRY POTTER?????
