  4. Sorry, but it's 'shiny' -- I don't usually, but had to.

Your question immediately brings to mind Joss Whedon's TV show Firefly and its movie sequel Serenity.

It's set in the far future, and 'shiny' has become a slang word just generally meaning 'good' -- like 'bad' was for a while years ago.

Or 'cool' has been for decades.

    Shiny!

Anyway, to your question. First, it draws the eye.

Second, it's pretty. And it's variable, depending on what's shining on it, and what's reflected in it.

Maybe it has to do with being visually water-like. So we're partly drawn to it because it might be water, which we need.

Or maybe it has to do with metal and jewels -- things that are both useful and valuable.

And, when things degenerate, they become less shiny. So it's also a sign of newness and not being dilapidated.

    mmmmmmmm -- shiny!

  5. Shinny things, like gold, reflect light, The sparkle of the light is stimulating. I get a strong feeling in my gut when I see sparkling shinny things. It's pleasureable.

  6. because they want to see what the shiny thing is or there bored
