Why do people like thunderstorms?

I myself love thundestorms, but unfortunately my area harldy ever get them, and if we do, it's very short. Anyway, I've hear a lot of people say they love thunderstorms and I never understood why? Any ideas other than "because they are cool"?

You are right, after a storm it usually gets cool. The storm brings rain and that makes everything grow nicer. The rain is better than fertilizer. The lightening and thunder are the hot and cold hitting together like the drums and cymbals of an orchestra. The rain hitting the ground is the melody.

Most people believe that a thunderstorm signals the second coming of the lord, so they buy cases of water and canned goods to keep in their basement...but let me let you in on something: Its raining. Put some cups outside and save yourself the $3.

They are natures fireworks and this gives people an adrenaline rush some more than others.  Also the storms ionize the air which is said to be soothing to people like the ions created by waterfalls, although I am not quite completely convinced on that one.  Of course the sound of the rain from the storm has a calming effect on some.

I appreciate them too. For me, it's a multi-sensual experience of the awesome power of nature, very much like watching waves crashing into a cliff.
