Why do people like to over feed there cat or there dog,

just last week i went to aol i seen a 44 pound cat that really looks sad, ps, people should not do that to there anmails if they love them. ( j b)

People like cute pudgy animals. They love their dogs a lot and think that the more you feed it the more you love it. However obesity is serious and can cut years out of a dog's potential lifespan.

But.. but... Look, I know how it looks and all but we have no bad intentions! When my cat is hungry I feed him, that's all. He just happens to be hungry all the time.

I don't think there are many who feed their pets too much on purpose.  I may be wrong, but have always heard they won't eat unless they're hungry.  Now in the case of the 44lb cat?  Yes, I think this is case of overfeeding definitely, unless the cat has diabetes or something like that which makes it overweight?  I feel for this cat and know it can't be healthy and happy that weighs 44lbs.

I don't think many people are aware that overfeeding animals can pose some pretty serious health risks. Instead they feel they are doing it out of an act of love since most dogs and cats won't refuse human food. I seriously doubt the owner of the cat has taken it to see a veternarian, if so they would be well aware of the danger their cat is in.

I don't like thin, skinny cats.

I like my cats to be blown up.

However, i would never trade a skinny cat for a cat that weighs 44 pounds. That's just so ugly!!!!

I do have a cat which weighs about 12-14 pounds.

I know there are some animals with disorders.  Other people just aren't aware of how much their breed of cat or dog should be eating a day.  Other people are plain lazy and throw out a bowl of food to last their pet all day.

I don't overfeed my bichon.

Well in my opinion I don't think they "like" to overfeed them, they just don't notice that they're doing it.
