Why do people listen to bad music?

It's not just me being an elitist either, so many people listen to terrible music, which isn't a matter of opinion, the songs and artists that are predominant in contemporary society are pathetic. The music that gets played on the radio and shown on MTV are examples of this trash, music made for the sake of making money, it isn't even an artform anymore.

For discussions' sake, we'll use Katy perry as en example, her song is monotonous and poorly composed, instrumental musicality is next to non-existent and it doesn't even live up to being a half-decent pop song with any decent hooks or samples,

...So why do so many people listen to it?

Well most teens think that if you listen to it, you'll be in-crowd and be cool, when really, NO ONE CARES! Wannabes listen to music and not listen to the lyrics, just to be cool with there friends. I personally hate that c**p now, it's pointless for me.

But, that's what the record companies are aiming for, they got our minds, not there gonna fill it more with trash. "There trash is our treasure"

Alot of people don't have good taste in music now a days. They don't know what they like, they just like it because others listen to it and its Popular.

Ok maybe other people like it and just because you dont doesnt mean its bad. For example, I hate Miley Cyrus. I think she cant sing worth **** but alot of other people like her and thats just the way it is and you cant do anything about so if I were you I'd get a life!

it's hard to say so many people do so many weird stuff music is just one of them things that you wonder

"why in the Earth would this person do this?"

and then I think you know what people are weird senseless and crazy.

it's not even worth trying to understand the people that listen to it neither the people that composed it (as an example the Katy Perry song)

because we have been brainwashed .... everyone wants to be part of the mold, and if you're not, well....

im 14 and when people listen to my ipod, they go like "what? you don't have _________, this song?"

but, they end up liking my music!

in order to be cool in today's society you need to at least know the American Top 40.... most of which is trashhhhh

I agree 100%. Kids nowadays have no individuality, like music they like just because they like it on their own. MTV and radio music is none the less a trend that everyone seems to follow. They're bad songs to begin with, and they're made worse to the point you can't stand to hear it any more when the d**n radios play it every five minutes.

This is a very, VERY hard question to answer. Being the son of a wel known jazz musician, I can tell you that the styles and sounds and allure of music vary to the ears as much as the flavors of ice cream to tongues. Yet it still perplexes the trained ear.

cases in Point? Weird Al Yankovic, Vanilla Ice, Rebe Jackson , etc

i have no clue, it comes on and if it has a nice beat ill keep listening to it not really paying attention to the lyrics. And by the time i notice what they're actually saying...its too late, i already like the song. Most songs now are catchy so they get stuck in your head
