Because they've most likely been in one position for a while, causing lines and wrinkles and blood not to flow properly.

They mess their hair up moving their head around on the pillow.

They still aren't fully awake so their appearance isn't exactly great.

I've only seen people's faces in the morning, of whom I slept with the night before.. weird? no.. more like Scared or panicked.

hmmm i think that too .... i have a problem.... when i wake up i hate people seeing me i think i look ugly, so as soon as i wake up i HAVE too get a shower so i feel normal again. hehe but for your question i dont know lol
