I expect that it would give someone a sense of power and achievement. Why do people write on walls? Men will kill for ego sooner than they will kill for money.

Life became much easier for me when I stopped expecting people to make sense.

they make viruses so that they can infect your computer, slow it down and make it hard for u to use, then get all of your personal details and/or hack into websites through your computer instead of using there own to do so. they hack into your computer also, so they can get into things like your myspace and msn and pretend theyre you and then time you go on u cant get into it cos they have changed your password or something. they also hack into your computer to get files off you like not only word documents but music, photos, videos etc. and lastly because theyre low-life a******s

As for the pointlessly destructive virii out there, the above posters are absolutely right. Why does anyone destroy other people's things for fun?

But for the majority of other virii out there, the answer is simple: there's money in it. Take the following example:

1. write a virus that takes over peoples computers

2. infect a ton of people

3. use their computers to send a bazillion junk emails for people to buy rolex watches, cialis, viagra, etc

4. profit

Say you want to send junk mail in the regular USPS mail. It costs money. Say you want to send TWICE AS MANY junk letters through the mail. It costs twice as much!

Now say you want to do it via email. Its free, no matter how many you send. So say 1 out of a bazillion people actually buy the ridiculous thing in the junk email. The spammers say "sweet, i'll just send a hundred-bazillion junk emails then!".

Just come up with a virus that infects, say, 10,000 computers and uses them as zombie slave labor.

1 - For the challenge.

2 - Competition between cellar programmers.

3 - Because the person is p**s*d off (at whomever)

4 - Because they hate microsoft and love to hack them.

5 - They want to get even with a perceived persecutor.

so that there is a balance in the universe.  There is always an opposite of everything.  There are people that make software to get rid of viruses so there are people that make viruses.  A balance is everything.  We would not be able to make wrong and right decisions, experience love and hate, and to have the choice of stealing or being honest if there was not a balance.  That is what life is all about.  Finding your own balance and hoping it is the right choice.
