Why do people need a sound proof a recording studio?

umm im a newbie at this studio stuf and i was wondering ..why do peopel get a soundproff room for recordings.like what difference does it make...is it better for recording peole with low voices or what

  1. Mostly to keep out external noise, even low-level conversation will be detectable as background buzz in a recording.  That's the main reason.  But also, with a soundproof booth, you can exercise greater dynamic range between very soft and very loud sound levels.  Also, as I think about it, you don't want external factors, such as sound leakage, distorting the frequency domain of the sound booth.


  2. In normal environments there is a lot of ambient noise, noise that makes raw recordings less than perfect (like soft buzzes or hums). Sound proof studios allow people to gather the sound they want and nothing more. In sound booths you may notice that there is a lot of foam on the walls, if you put one ear close to the foam you can't hear as much, the foam absorbs noise, unlike walls which deflects noise and creates ambient noise. The foam reduces ambient noise, which is really what you want when recording sound.

  3. It stops the sound bouncing around the room and making it sound 'tinny'.
