Question:

Why do people need more horsepower in their vehicals ?

I mean Lambo's has crazy horsepower ,people tune their engine to get more horsepower.....WHY? You can only go so fast ya know. Come to think about, why is it legal for manufacturers to make cars that are able to go over 100 mph ? Is it for running from the cops? It sure isn't for anything legal. Crazy hp should be only for legal drag racing, nascar and other LEGAL racing What do you think ? HHmmm maybe that how will cut money for the cop, hhmmm maybe there is a bigger picture. Somebody help me understand. All people need is torque. Torque bring acceleration( that what I was told) thats all you need. Get me to 70mph in 4 sec and im good, thats all I need that all non-pro racers need...PERIOD.

  1. just to show off, show of that they can afford sumfin big and powerful, but it doesnt they will be goin that fast in normal roads or cops straight behind them.

  2. to get to point A to point B faster than anyone else

  3. Generally high torque engines are high horsepower (except diesel).  Torque and horsepower are directly related, very simply put horsepower is torque times engine speed. Most people that build cars, build them to have high torque and horsepower - unless of course you're building a 4banger, then you'll never have torque.

  4. Obviously you don't even understand even the simplest mechanics or physics. Many people (usually with with trucks) use their vehicles to haul loads and tow. This requires more power because there is a bigger amount of mass for the engine to pull. Other people just like the idea of having a car that can go fast, even if they will never take it above 65mph. As for the getting to 70 in 4 seconds, no matter how much torque your car has, it will still need horsepower. Torque is the relationship between the use of power and in some kind of gear or lever. Without any power to move that gear or lever, you get no torque. Also, many modifications that increase fuel economy (your all for that, right?) also increase power because they increase the efficiency that you get out of every unit of fuel, thus creating more power with less fuel and decreasing the amout of fuel used to reach the same speed.

As for outlawing fast cars, Americans don't like to be told waht to do, especially on something like that. It implies that the people as a whole are not to be trusted with something as basic as following the law (something that the vast majority of us do just fine). An official that proposed that would never get elected (or re-elected) because no one would vote for someone who doesn't trust them. Also, one must remember that almost all modern cars come with a governor on them that prevent them from reaching these insane speeds. The only people who can afford to buy the cars that can reach over 100mph easy are wealthy enough that they wouldn't need to get in a car chase. As for the tuners and gear-heads that modify their cars to go faster: There is no way to enforce a ban on car modification. Even if there was something insanly restrictive and expensive like weekly inspections for all sorts of modifications, such a law would be impossible to enforce.

Besides, what you are suggesting (banning fast cars) is communism. If the government were to do something like that, you would see wide spread unrest. Such reglations would also lead to more restrictions on more basic things and a possible rebellion (but that is a matter for the politics section).

  5. This is mostly a guy thing. Higher horsepower is related to EGO.

One thing to remember; car tires are not designed to go higher than 100 mph. They explode! You have to have speed rated tires to drive faster than that. Such as police car tires. And they cost $$$.

For all speed freaks, enjoy it. Science is saying that we are going to eventually drive - in about 20 years, cars that do not use gas. And those cars will not be able to go fast. So speed now, the end of speed is almost over...

  6. No you don't get the point and probably never will. There's no feeling like when somebody with a ''fast'' car revs next to me at a stop light when I'm cruising in my trans am...I get the chance to get a HUGE adrenaline rush by beating the c**p out of my car so that all he sees are my tail lights and its like nothing else. Even if its not on the street, most of my friends drive they're fast cars everyday to and from work but on weekends its free game at the track. Remember fast cars are a way of life for many but most people only can afford one car

  7. its so  that  the engine can run  better an also to push more fuel throw the inejecters

  8. First off torque will not get you to 70 in 4 sec without loads of HP.  But torque with lower hp and small motor (such as diesels) will get there eventually and do it using less fuel.  HP is needed for fast engine response etc for faster acceleration.  The torque will allow for better load handling and allow for a smaller output to haul heavier load upto speed.  This where the europeans have excelled with small engine vehicles that haul 6 ppl and luggage and still get over 30mpg.
