Why do people not like the smell of herbs or garlic?

I think and all my English friends think it smells nice but then when someone says it absolutely stinks they pretend they hate it.

And it's the same to curry. I, never really had curry before and they always ask me whether I had eat curry and giggle. The next day, I find them saying that curry is their favourite food.

So, why, when it comes to garlic and curry people 'pretend' to hate the food when they actually love it.

What made British people find curry a joke and say Indians make it when they make it themselves.

Me, personally, .....as it doesn't kill or it doesn't stink its just food..... I don't mind it... do you?

I love garlic and I use it a lot. I also like the smell of garlic, but I really don't like it when my kitchen smells like garlic days after I've cooked, or when somebody's hair smells like sauteed garlic.

Same with curry. I like eating it, but it's disgusting when I can smell it on people's clothes.

It's cause they're unworldly closed minded ppl. They can't handle too much flavor cause they're use to bland food, and fake processed kraft cheese and junk like that.

Your friends that pretend to hate it to fit in sound like little kids, just wait till they grow up and try to brag about how they've eaten this and that.

Ppl who find curry a joke probably never had it, so in the end it's them that's missing out.

When I first had curry I wondered where the h**l it was all my life.

People are just scared of what they don't know or are unfamiliar with.

I'm Indian, and a rude Taiwanese friend of mine always makes a point of saying "Eeew...you're cooking onions and garlic?  That's gross!"  To which I simply tell her that she doesn't have to eat it, and if she can't take the smell she's more than welcome to visit me later.  

To me, onions and garlic cooking together are such a great smell.  That being said, I don't like it when I've just washed the sheets and then they smell like garlic.  I like my sheets to smell like fabric softener.  

A lot of times people aren't used to heavy aromatics.  Meh, they're missing out.

It only smells good when it's being used, not the lingering smell in the house days after you cooked.  Sounds like your friends are just going with the flow to make who they are talking to happy.
