Why do people not look others in the eyes?

I have a problem with almost everyone especially women it seems like no one can look me in the eye and not look away especially females it make me feel like **** everyday, makes me feel like a freak like there scared of me or they are purposely making fun of me

Don't take offense to it. Most ppl can't do this for an extended period of time. I think it relates to confidence..and looking into the eyes on another person can be very hard for some. You must be oozing with self esteem!! :D

I have really bad anxiety so eye contact is pretty much impossible for me (though I'm working on it and I've made some improvements...), but anyway, the thing is, they might just be shy or you could just be over-thinking it or something. Or maybe you're making too much eye contact...?

Probably because they are not used to doing so.in modern society  eye contact with another person is usually associated with courting or romance or is seen as almost an invasion of personal space.  There's a code of conduct when it comes to eye contact between men and is a big part of what has come to be known as "gaydar".

i'm not sure why.... but if you are purposely making your appearence look outrageous, often people try to look away really quick so you dont think they are staring. I guess thats what i notice about myself, if i see someone who dresses for attention, i try not to look because i dont want them to think i am staring!  But, like i said i dont know your situation you didnt give enough details on what they would be making fun of...........? ...  ... you have to wonder what YOU could do different though, if there is something you are doing that could make them treat you differently, and if there is something you could do to change the way people treat you.    Give more details...

sometimes when people look at me too intensely I do that. Maybe you should practice listening to what they are saying rather than looking to see if they look at you in the eyes.

maybe you have very intence eyes

no one looks people in the eye for very long..they usually look down for a little bit..and look back up..it would be creepy if peopel glared peopel in the eyes hehe

Hi... Well maybe it has something to do with her presentation towards them and how you greet them, and converse..

Even though I'm a c/d - t/v - I've never had problems within women's company..

Women, my friend, are the greatest darned thing around.. If you treat them correctly and with respect, and you gain their trust, you masy find that things would improve for you..

And then again, if your mannerism whilst in the company of females is not 100%, that certainly will create a problem (s)

So maybe you have to look deep inside of you to try and figure out what the problem is, and do it in a sincere manner and not "Oh I have nothing wrong with me" attitude..

I think it's out of shyness. I have trouble with that too, but it's not because I think a person is odd looking or anything.

mayb when they dont look u in the eye they hav insecurities bout themselves or they're nervous cuz they're not good w/ ppl.

i used to never look ppl in the eyes cuz i was insecuree bout miself, i always thought that there was prob. somethin on mi facee or they were prob. thinkin of how ugly i was so i wouldn't look them in the eyes i was afraid to, i couldn't even look at their facee for a couple of seconds w/out takin mi eyes off of it nd lookin down or to the sidee or up or somethin lik that

but i eventually taught miself to look ppl in the eyes cuz it shows that ur not afraid of them nd it shows u hav moree respect for urself nd them

It is hard to do. When I started working I had to force myself to stare in to peoples eyes. You get used to it after a while.
