Why do people on E-bay set their buy now prices higher than the retail price?

  1. There are a lot of unexperienced sellers on Ebay, and they think their items are worth GOLD.  But after a few unsuccessful listings, they normally will come down.  That and or will not sell their item.  

    Also, they do not do their research to see that there are 100 other identical items that only sell for $50., but they think theirs should sell for $75.  It just does not happen.


  2. This usually happens if the product is out of stock at stores, and unavailable through other retail outlets. The demand goes up and so does the price. A lot of people take advantage of this system to make a killing on new items like game consoles that are frequently out of stock..

  3. ... so that they'll make something on an item.
