someone actually said they were sick of it being shoved down their throat..the global warming thing. i don't even get that? what does that entail? does it mean that he is too lazy to recycle? can't stand the thought of using different fuel? what? are they tired of thinking about their eventual death and suffering due to the consequences of not taking responsibility for their waste and consumption? i don't know..please tell me, what is the hassle about????

  1. I for one am not convinced that we are actually seeing Global Warming, so I guess I am one of those people. I don't like to see waste, and I do take responsibility for my actions, but I am not convinced that there will be dire consequences in the near future.

So stop assuming that everyone is on board!

  2. it is about thinkers like you , whom assume that us who do not believe in a theory do not ,example recycle or take care of our mess.

  3. The problem? The majority of people who go on and on about global warming are only passing on information they heard second hand. Most cannot even tell you where they got that information (clearly when you're communicating via internet, it's different). Most 'environmentalists' have NO respect for the fact that THEIR view isn't EVERYONE's view. I respect your right to CHOOSE your own beliefs, you should respect mine in return.  There are no scientific FACTS, just theories.

Lazy? Can't stand the thought? Lack of Responsibility? Your own question PROVES my opinion, you used derogatory words because you can't respect that not everyone agrees with you.

My opinion, global warming is EXTREMELY over-exaggerated. However, you're quite wrong about how non-environmentalists act. I don't have a car, therefore don't buy fuel at all. I walk virtually everywhere, and if I can't walk I take public transit. I do recycle, almost EVERYTHING. I don't waste all that much, I turn off my lights and so on and so forth. So maybe before being downright rude about a large group of people, you should make sure that you aren't ignorant of what people are like, because ASSUMPTIONS are generally wrong.

  4. I have a problem with people telling me what to do with my property.  I have a problem with people stealing my income.  I have no illusions of immortality or of any other superhuman abilities (like being able to alter global cycles).  I don't care for the Blue Laws based on religious doctrine...I'm sure I'll hate the Green Laws even more.  The liberals love to talk about civil liberties.  Too bad they don't actually believe in them.

  5. evans is a good example.

<<I have a problem with people telling me what to do with my property. I have a problem with people stealing my income.>>

    there's a problem with greed.

note he's quite happy to use the roads, read the news paper that's generally free of gov't interference, use the internet with no censorship,  turn on the faucet and get clean water that won't make him sick.

and all he does is complain.

<< I have no illusions of immortality or of any other superhuman abilities (like being able to alter global cycles).>>

one hopes he has no children.  it sure wouldn't be fair to them.

  6. hmmm....maybe its because its a fad. remember the rain forest bull c**p a few years ago? yeah me neither. global warming is what liberals say they are going to fix when they get into office so the ignorant portion of the population (i.e. you) votes for them and then they instate a bunch of phony laws to take americans freedoms away. or maybe because former global warming scientists are coming out and saying that carbon "green house" emissions have a miniscule to absent effect on global temperature. and do me a favor, learn some facts before you just sit and watch the liberal news for 2 hours every night.

  7. If you grasp simple grammar why don't you capitalize the first letter in every sentence and the word 'I'?

To answer you're question, it's from the top of the food chain (Presidential Candidates) down to everyday commercials. And it has nothing to do with people not doing their part for the environment, since we started recycling programs in the 70's, and we all know alternative fuel sources need to be used.

You also assume an awful lot about people who don't buy into the farce of humans causing Global Climate Change. By stating we don't want to take responsibility for our waste and consumption. And we are all going to die someday, so to put that into your question as if Climate Change is going to be the cause of those deaths is absolutely ludicrous.

  8. AGW is a political issue not a scientific one and is intended to keep the current mass-market energy suppliers on the top of the heap and prevent independent competitors from usurping their control of energy production and distribution. So far the only alternative fuel that has come to market is corn based ethanol and it is driving the cost of any food made with grain up as fast as oil. There are very few options out there right now for consumers to get away from the control of the big boys.

I made what for me was a smart move some ten years ago by switching to a 1969 VW bug as my only car. This is generally saving me some $200 a month or more on transportation costs currently. I have insulated the walls and attic of my house and installed passive and active ventilation systems, which keep my basic energy costs down, and I am researching more ideas. I am doing these things to lower my cost of living and for no other reason, which everybody should do for the same reason. Then companies will build products to what customers want not what they want to sell. Why are there so many SUVs out there, because people who really did not need them bought them as a status symbol.

  9. They're just deluded fools who can't accept reality and don't like those of us who do telling them they are wrong.

  10. Well perhaps if you would pull your head out of the sand pile you have shoved it down into and pay attention to what the world governments are wanting YOU to give up you might understand.

OR perhaps you are in school and have not quite made it in to the job market.

Either way you need to wake up to what is taking place around you.  At this moment the electricity that you use every hour of your life is under attack.  The electricity that runs your computer, pod, cell phone, DVD player, lights water heater everything that you use is powered by electricity that is powered by green house gas causing power plants that they want shut down.  alternative? they don't exist.  Its not about not littering, its about being able to live, love, work and raise a family with is exactly what the real gw. people want to come to an end.

Wake up, or you will pay in the long run.

  11. What I am getting tired of is that industry has managed to blame us for their production messes.       I didn't ask for a car that gets only 8 mpg , but that is what gets put on the lot as a brand new exciting model that everyone needs to drive.   And it will only last 5 years and I HAVE TO replace it as that is the way it was manufactured.(to fall apart)   Who's fault is that?  Mine?  I think not.  I know not.

I would be just as content if the car gets 500 miles per gallon and lasts20 years,(but the manufacturers will not be happy, nor the oil producers).   I, on the otherhand would have not known the difference on the minimal differences between each make and model of vehicle produced each year unless the manufacturer pointed out WHAT those differences were.   What is the reason to have 500 horsepower under the hood when 100hp(and even less) can get me there too?

And the same applies to all the other useless c**p that gets produced to be used once and then thrown away because that is the way "it was designed".   My fault?   No bloody way.

It is time the manufacturers take the heat for their creations.

  12. I saw that question also, but to be truthful about it, I don't hear that much about Global Warming, except on here.

It just makes sense to me, that if you keep going to the Environment section you are going to hear about Global Warming.

just like if you go the the Religion & spirituality section you are going to hear about religion.

  13. It's not the end of the world, it's just the end of YOU.

  14. Yikes! Lots of hostility in the air with that question. I think the sentiment of the person was that there is much posturing on the issue (for and against) with little real action. Every day I get loads of junk mail from "green" groups. They could be greener by not sending out so much junk mail. A very real problem has been demoted to talk radio fodder.

  15. Hi, Scarlet.

People are talking about global warming being shoved down their throats, because people are part of the problem, not the solution. We also have things like litterbug signs shoved down our throats, speed limits, etc.

The reason people are complaining about it, is because human beings are lazy. Why do you think the pinnacle of social evolution is exemplified by decadence and technological comforts? Why do you think the developed world is fat and the developing world isn't?

Now, scientists are telling them to be less lazy and take responsibility for their actions. Two things people don't like to do. We all like to party, but nobody likes to clean up. Just look at evans' response.

He doesn't understand that our freedom exists on one condition - that our freedom does not impinge or endanger the freedom of others. When you pollute, you are endangering the freedom of others. It's as easy as that. That doesn't go as far as Americans only, that means globally. It's the same with speed limits. You drive to the speed limit not because you can hurt yourself if you lose control, but because you can hurt or kill other people if you do.

  16. Maybe these people don't want to be reminded that they

are being poor stewards of the planet and not realizing

that we live under laws of nature, GOD and man. GOD

and nature recycle. Man says "I got mine, you get yours.

What do I care as long as i live out MY LIFE in comfort?"

Puppy's don't like their noses rubbed in their own mess

    either, I understand

  17. I'm simply going to repost my answer to a similar question since I think a lot of people would do well to read it...

I think that global warming is a serious issue because first-world governments are using it as an excuse to tax citizens and citizens are willing to put up with that when no other excuse would ever convince citizens to willingly be taxed more. You see, in the third world (re: MOST of the world), the main form of transportation in massive urban centers where most of the population resides, are vehicles called 'Tuk Tuks', which operate as taxicabs and are powered with 2-stroke combustion engines. 2-stroke combustion engines are the same ones used in gas-powered lawn mowers, and they produce 98 times more emissions than 4-stroke engines with catalytic converters which automobiles use (most, anyway, there are still some automobiles with 2-stroke engines being manufactured in the 2nd and 3rd world). Venture out of the confines of the first world, and you'll find jillions of these things, and they're not going away.

So no matter what our governments do to penalize us for using relatively clean technologies, most of the rest of the world actually gets subsidized to use dirty technologies (in case you didn't know, in parts of the world where the local currency is relatively worthless, the gas is relatively cheap, because it would be impossible to exploit resources from those countries if their economies were required to pay as much for fuel as ours do).

Even if global warming is anthropogenic, and the science suggests it probably isn't, there's nothing any of us can do about it and our governments are lying and cheating us when they claim otherwise.

The real question is why the majority of the population of the first world believes that global warming is anthropogenic and believes that they need to do something about it personally.

There's a very good reason for urging the reduction of the burning of fossil fuels in automobiles, and it's called smog. It kills people every day, far more than any 'second-hand cigarette smoke' ever did, and yet people are more concerned with 'global warming' and 'second-hand cigarette smoke' than smog. That is rather pathetic but I think the reason is because until recently, with the advent of fairly reliable online sources, people had to rely on the media for information, and most of the media is a parrot of itself, and the few media outlets that do generate the buzz or spin are staffed with journalists, not scientists. Nowadays we are just starting to be able to research topics ourselves and come to fairly accurate conclusions if we're somewhat intelligent, and I suspect that's why there is a far larger proportion of people in the Yahoo Answers section who seem to have figured out that anthropogenic global warming is a weak theory than there are in the general population, most of whom are in the habit of recieving their information passively, rather than actively investigating for themselves...

Now, some of you might say, "But Chilly, what about the scientists, most of them say global warming is antropogenic just like the media does."  Well, you're right, and I think the reason for that is because most people who are called scientists either don't do, or can't do, anything resembling actual science.  They end up getting their information from the media just like the rest of us.  Partly this is due to the compartmentalization of scientific fields, whereby expertise gets confined to more and more narrow and exotic specialties, combined with the lack of communication between different fields of science.  But I think the biggest reason scientists parrot the media in a kind of feedback loop is because of the laziness that becomes inherent in the system of tenured academic positions.  That is, once an academic such as a scientist gets tenure, he stops working very hard, if at all.  This leaves the only working scientists left in the private sector, where scientific investigation is conducted for the purpose of profiting, rather than discovery in and of itself.

By the way, I'm also somewhat surprised that so many people here seem to make a connection between recycling, littering, and global warming. There is no connection. Choosing not to litter is a great idea, but not because it could have any effect on global warming. Litter has no effect on global warming. Recycling probably isn't much help, either. Ironically, I think most of the people who are most worried about global warming seem to be more interested in acting in a manner to allievate their own conscience rather than acting in a manner that could allieviate any possible global warming..

  18. I'm not sure but it annoys me too that people are complaining that other people are saying to take action about it. I believe that people should do things to prevent global warming.

  19. Because it's nonsense.  It doesn't make sense now, and never did.  If the alarmists wanted to start an environmental 'clean up the world' campaign to lower pollution and be more thoughtful, why didn't they just go with that in the beginning?  Instead, they picked a motive that even science doesn't support.  A false motive, but hyped it up enough to scare a major part of the population and get governments rolling.  All for nothing.

And it's expensive, very expensive.  Look what it's done to world oil and food prices, for example.  And the plans for the future don't look good, unless you're Al Gore who's already made a huge bundle off this thing.
