  1. Really?

  2. Most people don't plan their kids.  Some on SSI or welfare have children and then become disabled.  Others are uneducated.  And others have mental disorders (such as bipolar and depression) and often this causes them to sleep around or think they are in love.

You do know to get on welfare you have to be a parent or at least disabled right?  So obviously they have children.  If you ask why they make more children, well it could be lack of education about contraceptives or it could be that the contraceptive just didn't work.

  3. depends on why they are on it ...

my mom used social security income after my dad died (he did not have a life insurance policy that covered more than the funeral and fixing the room he died in) ...

some people had the children first and then lost their job or had a spouse die or leave (and no child support) ...  these people should not be required to give up their children ...

i am pretty sure you are talking about the people who are on welfare first, don't have jobs, aren't married, can get free birth control through the government, but choose not to and just keep popping out babies b/c the amount of the check goes up ...  they still get their nails and hair done and they don't scrimp and save so as much of the money goes for the children as possible and the children are not brought up to be personally responsible for their actions and to better themselves ...

short answer:  b/c they were never taught better and have no self-drive to do anything different ...  and the politicians who support this kind of program just get more registered voter support when these children come of age and want the programs to continue ...  it is all about education and taking personal responsibility ...  or lack thereof ...

  4. Because mistakes happen, and there are hard working people who also pay in just as much as everyone else, so why shouldn's they use their resources?

Just because a nice loving couple has a few setbacks, shouldn't mean they should just give up their baby for adoption or get an abortion

  5. Because people on welfare can't afford anything.  So they can't afford birth control.

  6. Or you could ask, "why do people with children get on welfare and SSI?"

I get what you're asking.  Sometimes it's a cyle, a pattern and they don't know how to make it on their own.  Other times it's really needed and valued.  But many times, it seems it's abused.  It's definately a government system, and I guess everyone has to just form their own opinions.

  7. Maybe they aren't ashamed to be using it?  A lot of my friends get some form of government assistance, some are single mums and rely completely on it. I don't think they really consider that relying on welfare should prevent them having kids, but they are doing it tough, the money they get is hardly anything.

  8. It pays.  You can have kids and get so much assistance from the government you can literally sit home and do nothing your whole life.  Without children you don't get much help, with kids, the more you have the more help they give.   If you want kids you want kids poor or not, at least there are these programs to help out when the money is short

  9. The same reason you would.  Because they want children.  Just because ppl are going through hard times, which is going to get harder with gas and food going up, doesnt mean they cant have children.  Some of these questions are so pathetic on here.  A lot of people are on welfare and SSI  and i'm pretty sure with today's society and the cost of living it will just get higher.  What are u saying?  People that are on these types of assistances shouldn't have children?  Think about the many women who get pregnant that are not on any type of assistance and then get on welfare. ie...food stamps, WIC, and medicaid.

  10. Sometimes people fall through hard times, and need help within the system, but if you are stating why people have 6 kids and file for SSI for each of them is pure ignorance and a way of life for them, not realizing that the system does suck and there is so much more out there for them and their kids.

  11. I do agree with a lot of you.. welfare assistance is there to help out those in need and that are working hard to make it and still can't make ends meet.. it is those that abuse the system and never work nor try to and you see them with all name brand clothing on and high end cars and stuff like that.. my husband and I make decent money and I feel sometimes that I can't afford to do a lot of things and own a nice car.  I am not bashing those using the system to make ends meet it is those that abuse the system giving it a bad rap.

My mom tried applying for medicaid because no insurance company would accept her because of pre exsisting conditions and she was denied because she made only a few hundred too much.. guess what... my mom is dead today because of it.. she did not have the insurance to get a lump checked out and I finany found a plan that only covered the doctor visit for her to say she had a prob.. she was diagnosed with breast cancer then I was able to find a program to help her BUT it was too late .. 10 weeks after diagnosis she died from breast cancer.

  12. Well i receive food stamps, medical, day care, and WIC. i work very hard for my money and pay all my bills i just dont have enough to cover the rest. does that make me a bad person? like i shouldnt have kids because of it?

  13. because they either want children and dont have much money, or they got pregnant and wanted to do the right thing and keep their child. Those programs are available for people who need it, you shouldn't be so judgemental of the less fortunate and should be happy those things are there so that those babies are getting what they need.

  14. I may p.... a lot of people off but I don't care. I am tired of our whole govt. assistance programs. They need to really reform all the laws. It is one thing to work a FT job and go to school and use the assistance for help. it is a whole other thing to sit at home and use a disability or plain laziness as an excuse not to get a job. I have seen way too many times people having more kids just to continue to get welfare. In PA there is a 5 year cap, BUT if you have another kid it starts over again. I worked w/adults who had mental retardation and other forms of developmental disabilities and they were HAPPY and GRATEFUL to be able to work. Ever since then I refuse to let anyone feed my the, "I'm disabled," line. Assistance is just that...A-S-S-I-S-T-A-N-C-E.

I am fully aware that bad things happen. I received food stamps at one time when I was laid off the first time a couple years ago. Those bast@#$% had the nerve to tell me I was overpaid by $400. I did pay it back and refuse to use any assistance again. I think if I had a few more kids it would have been different. When I applied for assistance w/daycare for my daughter I was told, I made too much money. I made $24,000/yr. and paid $500/mo rent, bills, and I was attending college FT. It is ridiculous and I couldn't figure out how other people got all that help and I couldn't even get $200/mo in daycare assistance. The 2nd time I was laid off I got a crappy PT job and collected partial UC benefits while I searched for a FT job. It can be done, if you have the will power and drive.

I will stop ranting, I just get so angry thinking about the welfare and social security system and all the low life that ABUSE the system. It's a joke....

  15. There are different reasons. Like a single woman with kids, who gets no child support can really use the help. But there are some who keep having kids so they can keep the money rolling in.

  16. Well, some people need it.  But, what bothers me is when a parent has one child and they can't support it. Then, they turn around and have more children and continue to live off the system, bringing more and more kids into the world.  It's not fair.

  17. That's a good question with no real answer. Why would anyone who can not afford to have a child have one? Hmmm? Does it really take rocket science to figure that one out?

As someone else said, these programs were originally set up to ASSIST......they were not set up to give someone a full and free ride. These programs need reform........TOTAL reform. How sad that a person who works their butt off 40 hours per week does not qualify for ANY assistance because they make too much money, yet a perfectly healthy, able bodied person can sit on their butt and collect, collect, collect....... Confusing?

I certainly have no problem whatsoever with SSI for the person who has lost a loved one or is disabled........TRULY disabled. The majority of the time they have paid their SSI and are simply getting it back. But those who continue to have children while they are already on ASSISTANCE are the people who just frost my butt!

If I had my way, a person who gets FULL ASSISTANCE should be mandated to have birth control administered with a big old shot in their lazy butt..........but that is somehow taking away their rights as American citizens.....blah!

  18. People are on welfare because the cost of living is so high. People need help sometimes even if they work. Also there is those dead beat dads who don't want to take care of there kids and that makes it harder on the parent who is trying to care of there children. SSI is for people who are disabled. I have a 14month old who is disables and he has SSI. It has nothing to do with people who have kids it has to do with people who are sick and they need help cause they have special needs. It just sounds like your a person who will judge people but you arnt walking in there foot steps.
