Why do people place a strong emphasis on 'feelings' over what's right/practical??

Question

When making tough choices in life, why do people do 'what makes them feel good' over the best choice, which may suck in the short term but pay off in the long run?? Are people just getting too soft these days?

Think about that question... If I decide to spend my life with a man who is pratical for me yet makes me feel miserable is it really worth it?... Gues to each his own but for me no its not

When someone makes a choice based on what makes them or others feel good then it's a pretty good sign of co-dependancy.  Co-dep. is rampant in society, and nothing new.....perhaps you're just becoming aware of this behavior, but it has been around since the dawn of time.  Basically the person is trying to present the image that they're a good person....which means their self esteem is sadly lacking.  A very nasty cycle to fall into.  Also, a very lazy cycle to fall into.

Because the prevailing culture is short term results over long term goals.

People want to do what makes them feel good, what they desire.  It's immaturity.

because we for the most part want instant gratification. we would rather have our pleasure now than next month or a year or 10 years from now even if the delayed pleasure will be worth 20 times more than what we get today. its a serious issue but its something people must work on a personal level in order to counter this tactic.

They are immature.  Or as Dr. Albert Ellis PhD. has said "Neurosis and Psychosis are just high class words for childishness."  They are Irrational, neurotic.  They often don't feel very well about themselves in the first place, because of a lack of knowledge, and want to feel good, at lease in the short term.  If they learn to change their thinking and think more rationally they would feel better, be happier and make better decisions.  Remember It's, I think therefor I feel.

Basically, lack of education possibly? Who know.  Feelings are very unreliable though, I wouldn't trust an important decision to them.  I think you have the right idea though.
