" You're so quiet!" "Why don't you ever talk?" "You never talk.''

It's not like we haven't heard it all our lives, and pointing it out makes things worse. It makes us think there's something wrong with ourselves, and it's embarrassing.

Why, why do people it? It's rude.

  1. I find that when I have said that to someone, it is because their silence makes me uncomfortable most times, other times it could be because of the environment or social situation. If that person is quiet while everyone else is having fun then it gives the impression your not having a good time. So maybe in a way they are trying to get you to be more involved, because they want to make sure your happy and enjoying the scene as much as they are. I have never asked this question to intentionally annoy someone, although it may have.

  2. They probably want you to talk.

  3. "You are very quiet".That is the first comment of any observer referring to an introvert.Quiet people know that they are quiet and are comfortable with it.We tend to hear these type of comments mostly from our parents, teachers, classmates.

Only in the case when the teacher reminds  you that "You are very   quiet" that  pointing out works. In other cases, well, I dont think you will have to guess for a long time about how it feels when your classmate or parent says "You are very quiet".My personal experience is  that it is quiet embarassing and annoying,I had to go to a shrink because of this nonsense.People would never get tired of saying that even after  you change. They seem to find it funny and that is the part that depresses us a lot.All i can say that you have gotta learn  to face such comments and enjoy life cause our society pressures us to run  around  and spread ourselves thin.

  4. I don't know, i kind of like it when they do, although its admittedly pretty awkward, but you can make up a funny excuse that gets you talking. (personally, im quiet because i am socially awkward)

  5. Yeah I am not exactly quiet but I am not the talkative type either.

I mean if they don't talk, they at least have common sense and know that they are quiet! I think people either are rude or just want to think of a way to get them to talk. Apparently it's just annoying and doesn't work.

But sometimes people need a little reminder. Like in school the teachers might want you to talk more.

    Hope this helps!

  6. They say it to waste the silence, as everything else they say is most likely unimportant as well.

  7. Because they are nosey and think people that mind their own buisness have some kind of secret agenda. Also, they like to cause and create problems for others. Been there, these people really do need to leave others the h**l alone, because I'm not one that likes to get sucked into or involved with  everyone elses created drama and gossip, I have real problems to deal with without others creating them for me, and the only way I know how to accomplish that is to keep to myself. ;-)

  8. they want to change you and make you more outgoing, and somehow they think that starting up a conversation on an uncomfortable topic is going to do that.
