Why do people pray for football?

Question

"Dear God I hope Italy wins the World Cup." Or I'll hear someone say something like "I don't know why Brazil lost. I don't know if it's because of God or what." Since when is God a football fan? What makes you think he supports your team? He has to answer other football fans prayers as they pray in the stadium no? Doesn't God have more important prayers to answer? :D

You have forgotten one huge fact about football and it is none other than betting. Many would be fooled to think that these people pray for a national team, say Italy (using your example) and think that they are all Italians or if the prayer is directed to a club such as Chelsea for example, then the person is a hardcore Chelsea fan.

However, these people are not driven to pray hard for their teams out of love for the team. They are praying for money! It is just that they are praying to get the money from betting for the football team of their choice to win.

In a stadium for instance, for example it is Italy vs Belgium, all the prayers in the stadium, like you said seems to be for different purpose, but if you look at it, it is actually the same. Everyone in the stadium wants to gain money, and in my opinion, God decides who get the money and who don't by making one of the team win the match and that's it.

Everyone prays for something to God nd football fans pray for their team. When u observe it closer,this prayer is also done for thier country.everyone wants their country to win,never mind whether its a game or a war.then God analyses the quality of the prayer and answers accordingly.God is there to answer everyones prayer,i dont think he will have some other business..

That's why I love the Serbian calcio commentator. He gives aaall the credit to himself. " If I hadn't said he would score, none of this would have happened!! People, it's all in the motivation ".

People usually do that just as a comfort thing.  I honestly can't help but laugh when people pray for things like that, or when someone attributes a win to god......

I think I've mentioned the Arabic commentators in football who attribute everything to god.

"Praise be to Allah, this is his will!!" I mean come on....give the player that scored just a little credit lol.

God never really answers any prayers. He doesn't intervene into our world, or else why do people keep on dying everyday?

People pray because well, don't you want some supernatural backup to help your team win?
