  1. if brown hens lay brown eggs and white hens lay white eggs, why dont black hens lay black eggs

  2. In the eastern United States there was an advertising campaign years ago to get local people to buy local eggs from farmers.

Most farmers in New England had chickens that laid brown eggs.

So there was an add campaign and a catchy jingle that went like this,"Brown eggs are local eggs, and local eggs are best!"

So many folks in New England who were brought up with this little poem still believe that Brown Eggs are best.

And seeing I have chickens that lay brown eggs, I agree!

      No science involved.

  3. i forget which, but it's either feather or comb color is indicative of egg color. for the most part, brown eggs are preferred for homecooking since typically white eggs are associated with commercial production.

it really doesn't matter which egg you eat. it's all the same.

  4. Preference for egg color seems to be regional.. Brown eggs are popular in New England and two of the best brown egg producers are the Rhode Island red and the New Hampshire red. It varies with earlobe color.

There are also breeds that will give you blue or green eggs.

  5. don't know why, but I do know that white hens lay white eggs and brown hens lay brown eggs but there is no difference in taste.

  6. They prefer brown over white because they are different. At one time most eggs were brown and people in America wanted pure white eggs.Chickens were bred up to lay white eggs for the markets.  THen the brown eggs were less common. People want things that they perceive as being uncommon.

Feather color has nothing at all to do with eggs shell color. White ear lobes produce white eggs and red produce colored eggs. Its the individuals breed that matters.

There are mostly white chickens that lay brown eggs and black, golden, buff, red, tan chickens that lay white eggs.

  7. White hens lay white eggs and brownish hens lay brown eggs. The brown hen has brown ear lobes and the pigments in the outer layer of the eggshell will be about the color of the ear lobe of the chicken that laid the egg. White hens have white ear lobes. It's the same as people white people have white babies etc. There isn't any nutritional difference in the different colour eggs. I suppose people think brown is preferable in the same way that people with a bit of a tan look healthier than people who have very pale skin.
