  1. Because they are incredibly moronic (And no, that is not an insult, it is a description of someone who is blind and knows very little.)  and believe what the media says about Canada and it's socialistic Parliament.  The truth is, Canada is not perfect, but it is run a h**l of a lot better than the US.  I am an American who lived in Canada for a time.  I never waited 6 months to see a doctor.  I never had problems with my car insurance.  My family never went hungry.  There were very few homeless.  And NO-ONE complained about the government doing things they did not agree with.  I never locked my front door when I left for work.  I could leave my keys in the car when I was at the mall.  The US sucks a big bone and needs to wake the h**l up and learn that Capitalism can still survive with Socialism.   Another moronic American ideal is the inability to separate Socialism from fascism .  They are not the same!  Get over it!

  2. I'm Canadian and have lived in and still travel to the United States often. The two countries are not that different.

Canadians are a little delusional about Canada. A little too left leaning. Plus Quebec is a massive wart on Canada. The US is a little too religious.

Canada would be more appealing to someone who is mediocre  and happy with that. US would suit someone who has a winner mentality better.

  3. I'm an American living in Canada. I like Canada alot. But I don't see that there is much difference between the two. Other than America is better.

  4. Just reading some of the other comments and to set the record straight, we do not have to wait six months to see a doctor.  Sure our taxes go to support our health care system and it may not be a perfect system but it's still pretty good. I've been on  Canada Pension disability for about thirteen years.  in all those years and countless visits to my doctor plus hospital time and seeing specialists it has not cost me one cent.  My prescription deductable is about $400.00 per year although the drugs cost  around $3,500.00.  When we have to go to a nursing home  costs are covered unless one chooses semi-private or private care.  We don't have to sell our homes or have our children pay the tab.  Most of my relatives live in the U. S. and I enjoy visiting them but I'm sure glad to get back to Canada where we aren't as concerned about guns and such a high crime rate.  For the most part I believe Canadians prefer living in Canada and are extremely patriotic  For a few years I lived in another country and now I know Canada is the best place on the planet to live however I respect everyone and well understand why others feel the same way about their country.

  5. People all over the world have very littl eknowledge of Canada.  Most dont' know much at all except that it's cold and we like hockey.  They do know alot about the United States.

Both countries have similar economic opportunities, but few know about that.  So they would rather go to the placde they know best.

  6. i am fed up with the standard american answer to health care wait times in canada IF YOU NEED CARE YOU GET

IT NOW! almost all canadians have a family doctor, if you dont there is walk in clinics all over the country.

  7. I live in Canada

and yes there is a little bit of a long wait to see a doctor but its not 6 months

i would prefer Canada over America any day

but i do love traveling there

  8. i think its the exact opposite...ppl usually find Canada a better option than the U.S. because it has the most resources in the world, it has the 'best' and most water, therez barely any pollution..i mean the lifestyle is just much more healthier than it is in the United States, u shld check how many ppl are going 2 canada nowadays, esp. w/the whole U.S. economy declining, everybody is going 2 canada, its a welfare state nd just living there is far less stressful than living in the U.S. as well as tht, i find in Canada racism is a lot less an issue than it is in the states, ppl seem 2 b more tolerant and open in canada than in the states

  9. which poll are you taking your info from

I know many americans who live in Canada because they prefer canada better and many canadians who would ot move to the USA either ...so I  would like to know where you are getting you info from

  10. i prefer canada because were not all brainwashed against the US...."notcanada.com" ^^  ....most of the stuff on that website isnt even true...in fact, most of that could be said about the US, and have some truth in it then (obviously, that site was made by an american, who will believe whatever the h**l he is told by the media)

i suppose the above answerer, as well as many others, also believe the song "blame canada"

my parents both needed a buch of surgeries throughout the year last year, the minute they found out they needed one, they were in the O.R..guess what? THAT VERY DAY!!!

also, our current government is CONSERVATIVE....learn the meaning of socialism and communism before you say someone is

  11. the answer is americans prefer america to canada and canadians prefer canada to america. completely egotistical. Not much better just nationalism

  12. I moved to Canada 2 years ago from the USA.

I prefer the following in Canada:

    -The people are friendlier.

    -There is less crime.

    - Taxes are actually lower (I pay 21 percent here and payed 25 percent in the US)

    - Tax money is used to give the people back some kind of service. (In the USA the Income Tax money is used to fund a senseless war)

    - Free Medical (My wife gave birth by C-Section at the hospital here and we didn't pay a dime.)

    - The politicians are only half the crooks they are in the USA.

I prefer the following in the USA:

    - Warm climate in the southern states

    - Stores are open longer

    - There is more action

    - Greater national pride

I love both USA and Canada.

  13. I prefer the Canadians!

For me, they are more kind!

  14. they do??? well im not so sure about that because i ounced asked a question about which country you like better Canada or Usa? majority picked Canada. these people werent even from canada they were people from other countries who have either visited canada places or heard about canada. but its everyones oinion i guess. most americans are going to pick their country and most canadians are going to pick their country. i am canadian and i love it. for me its better then the usa because its my home!

  15. I don't prefer the US I prefer Canada.    The southern states have warmer weather than us, and their shopping is waaay better, but other than that, I think we have it great in Canada.

  16. People prefer the US over Canada?

    thats news to me...

I guess its because if you're rich then in the US its great, shopping in LA and all that jazz.. (but when you're poor, you're screwed)

people fantasize about being rich, not poor.

I think in Canada people of all incomes are off ok, even if the waiting time is long in hospitals. do they let someone who can't pay die? don't think so...

  17. I'm British and given the choice would prefer Canada.  It has lots of open spaces, beautiful cities and a way of life that looks peaceful.  Having said that, i've only ever been to New York - a never to be forgotten place - but not for the best reasons.

  18. The majority of American's like America better simply because it is their home.  America has a great sense of nationalism and country pride.  We have a large economy, though it is currently not doing very well. Also, just like you don't understand much about us, we don't understand much about Canada.

  19. I think many people around the world prefer Canada over the US although the latter still has many good points. However, although Canada is far from anyone's idea of perfect I agree with an earlier comment that it is run a h**l of a lot better than the United States.

  20. Well I have never heard a Canadian say that they prefer America over Canada, although I've heard it said by Americans.  This is probably because many Americans are brainwashed by their government and propaganda.  They don't have minds of their own, and they are arrogant and think they are better than everyone else.  Canadians are smart enough to know the names of the states in the U.S., yet someone actually posted a question on here asking what a "province" is.  The first guy who posted on this question actually thinks that in Canada we have to wait six months to see a doctor! OMG!  Americans are so scared of Communism and Socialism that they are terrified to have as good a health system as Canada has, and to have the entire population take care of the ones in need through our tax money.

So as for myself, I would much rather live in Canada than the United States.  Better health care system, lower crime rates, beautiful landscape, and better economy!

  21. There are 300,000,000 Americans and 33,000,000 Canadians.  If there were 300,000,001 Canadians, more people would prefer Canada.

From high crime rates to needing a weed whacker to walk down a city sidewalk , wonderful job opportunities like those to be found in Detroit, dodging blowing garbage all over the streets of Buffalo--ah, urban America--no thanks.

..and God help you if you're a "lowly" labourer, making minimum wage--get in line and wait for Medicaid--and remember you get what you pay for.  Your wait time will be long, and you won't likely have a family doctor.

The United Nations consistently ranks Canada as one of the best countries in the world in which to live, so I wouldn't say people prefer the States--quite the contrary.

  22. because of higher rate of exchange of US dollars people prefer to earn higher amount since it does not seems but I think it may be the reason.

  23. I am American but I love Canada.  How is your health care system since it is free. Do you really have to wait months for things.

  24. Most of what others have written sounds reasonable. I should point out, however, that Canadians do NOT have free medicare. As you pointed out, we pay higher taxes which is why we don't have to pay out of pocket to see a physician.

I think a lot of people who live on either side of our shared border have some misconceptions about the other. We can thank the media for that. You mention that Canada is such a "...beautiful peaceful country." I agree there. I am a Canadian living in Canada. However, a lot of the US is peaceful, too. New Hampshire in autumn is at least as colourful as Montreal or Ottawa. I think what inspires a number of people to seek citizenship in the US is the sound pummeling we all get in the media about how magnificent the US is, how it is "number one" and, by inference, how every other place is inferior.

Perhaps the US is "number one" to a lot of people but not to all and even to many Americans, the US is not "number one". Otherwise, not a single American would ever want to live elsewhere.

The way to avoid all this damaging jingoistic nationalism is to consider ourselves citizens of the Earth. My birth certificate, driver's license, pilot's licence and passport are all Canadian, but I am a citizen of Earth.

JoelB, I'm afraid you are incorrect about having to wait 6 months to see a doctor. While we do have fairly long waiting lists to go in for specialists and specific treatments, we do not have to wait 6 months to see a doctor.

  25. I've lived many places in the US.

    I've traveled through Canada.

I would LOVE to live in Canada.

The people are great, and the mountains are stellar.

The Canadians are a lucky lot.

  26. People prefer America because of the MONEY. America pays more than Canada. I think it different now. Canada is the preferred now than America due to this war in Iraq. I am Canadian and I was in London to visit my children.  I approach who has a Canadian flag on her backpack ,  I ask her if she is from Canada, she said  she is from Buffalo. So I introduced myself that I am Canadian. I ask her why she have a Canadian flag in stead of American flag. She told it is safer to be known in Europe as Canadian than American.

  27. probably because Canada is more like Siberia, this could be why people prefer to live in America

  28. I don't think one is better than the other. It all depends on the perception you have of things. It depends on what you are looking for, what you want to do with your life, even the weather can influence your opinion. The only people who can truly say they prefer one or the other are the ones who lived in both.

I prefer Canada because it's all I've ever known and I love the space we have here. We are fortunate to have a peaceful country with many natural resources and employement.

  29. I wonder the same thing.. i am also Canadian. But you know it's for obvious reasons... the us has more options available there and they make more money than we do up here. They have cheaper things there but with the currency being at par.. it makes it cheaper here than there. Ppl just like the lifestyle there. For example in athletics which athletes have better options... of course the us athletes... they have better sponsors and offer many scholarships... so that might be one reason. Like you said here in Canada they have free health care and in the USA not.. some ppl would rather pay the health care and live in supposedly a better place. Hope this helps you..

  30. I am currently an American living in beautiful Canada..

I like it here, and the health care is great (but some have told me its really slow going to get some procedures/ tests)

My hubby is Canadian and he loves being back home, but he misses the states as much as I do. Even though the crime is lower, the health care is better, I still miss the good Old USA. I guess I am a patriot at heart, so I am biased, but my hubby likes the idea of being an American too.. So, I really dont know the exact reason.. But if had to guess, it would be that

even with all the bad stuff we are ALL extremely patriotic people and also in the news alot all over the world, and I suppose that kind of patriotism and unique History makes the USA very attractive to others. Despite our faults, we pick ourselves up, dust off and get a better president..

  31. it's because the reasons are all in these website
