Why do people require signs or proof?

Like Thomas, who said that unless he saw the nail marks in Jesus' hands, then he wouldn't believe.

But blessed are those who believe and have not seen!

  1. It doesn't make sense to us to accept something as real just because it has been thrust upon us of for our entire lives. If you start to think about it and look for proof, sometimes you find that it doesn't make sense, and there's no reason to believe. What makes faith so virtuous? From here it looks like gullibility.

  2. Lack of faith

For why do you seek proof if you dont believe

  3. Because we have complex minds that require more than just 'faith' which is code for "I have no reason to believe but I do anyways"

  4. Why are they blessed? More like fooled and gullible...

  5. I don't blindly believe in some whimsical answer to life's biggest questions.

If I'm wrong, at least I was a good person and had the integrity to question the views of people around me.

  6. Ignoring the technicalities of what I am about to say;

If I said to you, "There is a load of gold in a bag in London."

    Would you go?

If I said to you, "There is a load of gold in a bag in London." And then handed you a piece of gold and a map. Would you go?

If you went the first time, then, have fun. And, whose to say your wrong?

But, would you not feel a lot more comfy in the knowledge, that if all else fails, you already have a piece of gold?

People require proof because they do not put their trust in something easily. That is why, when some bright spark came along and said, "Guys, the earth is round." No one believed him until he produced proof.

And even then, they were not convinced.

  7. The claim that you need to believe based on faith alone is just an excuse made up by theists because they can't show any evidence for the existence of God.

    It's very convenient for them.

It is NOT unreasonable to ask for evidence for truth behind the claims that you make, and that includes evidence for the existence of God.  If there is a God, and God is an intelligent being, then he would be aware of that.

I'm not buying "blessed are those who believe and have not seen."  That's the type of thing con artists say to people they sucker.  "Just TRUST me..."

  8. It is ok to require proof if you have not had Jesus teach you as Thomas had.

  9. They lack in faith in God.  They live by "seeing is believing."  Faith is believing without seeing.

Also, I do not put my faith in man or the world, but in God alone.  Everything falls into place when you trust and have faith in God.

  10. Let's say Jesus was a used car on my lot. Would you trust me if I told you it was the best car you could buy? No, you wouldn't, and would want a test drive, Right!

Ok, I give you a test drive and it does ok, but after you pay me for it, will it run forever? I doubt it.

Religion is the same. I would want to take it for a test drive and not just around the block. If it couldn't come in at least 2nd or 3rd at Daytona, it ain't the car for me. If it breaks down a few blocks from the lot, you can keep it.

I took it for that teat drive and it didn't perform too well and kept wanting me to spend more money on it to fix this and that.

I'd rather drive an atheist than push a Christian!

  11. Please send me $1,000, I am a blind crippled orphan and I support my 17 younger brothers and sisters by begging and scavenging in garbage tips. Obviously I will not have to prove this to you.

  12. because they have no faith

  13. Because they requires sign instead of faith.

  14. 'how many times hath this question been asketh, and how many times hath it ben answered'

    - book of the numnuts 1:14:98

Like Ravioli, who said that unless he saw the oil marks on Pastamans shirt, said he wouldnt believe the flying spaghetti monster existed.

But blessed are those who believe and have not tasted!

  15. Because Im not gullible enough to take "trust me, its real" for the truth...

My parents taught me about God, about Santa and about the Easter Bunny. They were lying about at least two of them for certain...and Im willing to bet my non-existent soul they were lying about God too. They lied about me growing hair on my palms, they lied about my face staying that way if I didnt stop making faces...they lie. They lie to keep us in line. And, what is more scarier than the wrath of your mother or father? The WRATH OF GOD!

  16. Because if someone says something is true, I want to find out for certain whether it's true or not.  I don't just believe whatever anyone tells me.

I'm sure you don't either - I'm sure you would require proof for many things in life.
