Why do people ritually say the monarch has no power, when they are very clever and are listened to intently?

If you believed the country was in a way yours, and the population were your subjects, wouldn't your view become one of the most useful? If stated often it would be better known. the queen could capture anyone's attention and hold it. Yet she talks to us once a year for 10 minutes. Tabloids don't help, they preach the royals are "out of touch".

She should talk to us once a month about the society she knows. It would be a much more sober and positive place. But then they don't believe in our lives, do they.

  1. The monarchy's power isn't as great as it used to be;today, the Queen's power mostly lie in her abilities as an advisor. She should stay more in touch with all people, and probably is doing a better job of staying aware than in the past. She is hampered a great deal by her courtiers who are also out of touch.William and Harry,Zara, Beatrice, Eugenie, and the younger royals can help the Queen stay abreast of modern times since they go out in social situations in a more public setting that she does. The Queen is very isolated,I think. It would be nicer if she addressed her people more often. That's a good idea.

  2. They have influence but no power.

  3. Clever?? The only one with a spark is Phil the Greek. As for his Royal Highness the Prince of Foggy, with all the money spent on his education he should be smart,he isn't!

Sober and positive place to live, it's just too good to be true. You've never walked along the Old Kent Rd at night

  4. JustCurious has it right!  And, it would be great to hear from the Queen more often.  I do think the Queen is interested and concerned with the lives of her subjects.

  5. The monarchy used to be the head of the government so they had considerable power!

  6. Of course they have influence, but no political power!
