Why do people say Canada is a better winter sport country?

Question

People have been saying that Canada sucks at summer sports, but is the best at winter sports.

After looking up the total medal count for summer and winter olympics you'd see Canada does better in the summer than the winter.

In the summer Canada has a total of : 242 medals

In the winter canada has a total of : 119 medals

Even at the Winter olympics, USA always beat Canada.

If the water doesn't bother them in their cold weather, then in the warmer climates it's even more easy for them to compete.

No one said Canada was the best at Winter Olympics they just said they were better. You can't compare the medal count of the Summer and Winter Olympics. Canada has participated in more Summer games than Winter games. Plus there were over 900 medals given out at the Summer games in 2004 and only 250 given out at the last Winter games. More chances to win medals mean more medals will be won.

but hey all they play is hockey and lacross. yhey envented basket ball and they suck at it!!! sheesh...

Canada sucks at every olympics. it's because when people they think of Canada, they think of snow, and hockey. at least I do. hahah

because we aren't good in anything besides hockey and lacrosse,

our floor hockey team sucks ***, same goes for the soccer team

and we are play in swimming,

WE DON"T EVEN HAVE A BASKETBALL TEAM,  AND WE INVENTED THE GAME !!!!!

they probably assume because of all the snow ans stuff up there. the truth is, according to wikipedia site, Norway actually has the most winter medals at 280, USA next with 216. Canada's winter total is 119.

the difference in medal count is possibly due in part to there being fewer sports and medals available in the winter games.

let's take one sport from each:

Summer - gymnastics: team, indevidual all round and each apperatus for men and women, so thats what 14 gold up for grabs?

Winter - figure skating: 4 golds available (m/f solo, pairs and ice dance)

Compare most countries medal totals and they will have more in the summer games. Canada do better medal table position wise in the Winter games .

its always cold here.... like almost.......

hence the reason our outdoor soccer team can only train 5 months TOPS outa the year, where as i play indoor and outdoor soccer but indoor sucks compared to indoor, just come to canada and ull see soon y we are better at winter sports
