Why do people say that. You cant say that he wont be King, unless he gets a terminal disease. Its not like saying "David Cameron won't become Prime Minister". But I want to know people say it; is it because they think when EIIR dies Monarchy won't continue (but of course it will continue by Constitutional Law it will). So why?

  1. For some reason a lot of people believe Charles should not be king, and should hand the throne to his eldest son William.

This seems to stem from the fact his first marriage broke up.

Frankly I find that point of view bizarre and incomprehensible. I see no valid reason for Charles not to become king after his mother.

  2. I have often wondered the same thing myself personally I think he will make a good king

  3. charles is a lovely kind man. i hope he will be king. why should he be overthrown in favour of william?

i think people that dont like him are carrying a torch for diana and that is wrong. their marriage and their problems were /should have been private. charles will be king.

  4. They are deluded. As if they will be asked

  5. I honestly believe that William will be the next king.

  6. Good question - starred.

By law, Charles will become King upon the Queen's death or abdicaton (chance of abdication is near zero). The only way William will inherit from his Grandmother is:

    a) Prince Charles predeceases his mother, William will automatically be heir and become Duke of Cornwall but not necessarily Prince of Wales.

    b) Prince Charles renounces his right to the throne. Not likely to happen, Prince Charles has been training for the job since birth.

  7. The Queen will never move over for him and possibly when she dies he will be too old and not want to be king - so William will probably be next King

  8. I think you've misunderstood some of what people are saying on here.  It's my understanding that they mean some people would prefer it if he didn't reign as King due to his behaviour in the Diana/Camilla debacle.

  9. I believe the queen will actually outlive her song. But you're right, you never know. It's just that Charles is growing old.

  10. Unless he dies before his mother Charles will be King.   Our Queen was a young mother and Charles was much older when he first became a father, so some people think that, given the longevity of the Queen's female line, She may well out live him.

Another reason I think that people say he won't be King is because he has always seemed so far removed from reality, but you have to remember the way in which he was brought up.  His Grandfather died quite young and he was a very small child when his mother ascended to the throne at the age of about 25 (I think).  He was sent away to school, he hated being away from home and was terribly unhappy.  He was caught at that time when royalty was still seen as the "untouchables" and he could not, at first, adapt when things quickly started to change in the 1970s and 80s and since then.  Also, if you think of how many times his father has put his foot in it - maybe Charles has inherited a bit of that "speak first, think later" trait!!

Personally I think he is underestimated as people who have actually met him seem to say he is a very nice, intelligent man.

Whatever happens, the Royal family will continue and we will continue to be the United Kingdom (which we couldn't be if we became a republic - you can't have a "kingdom" without a king or queen!)

  11. Many people wish to abolish the monarchy....constitutions can be changed.

  12. Wishful thinking, I think. People would prefer the more romantic image of a young king, in the form of William.

  13. he should abdicate with Camilla and give the throne to William as when the Queen dies which given her mothers age may be a while yet, he will be too old.....

  14. Most people who say Charles will never be king are carrying some sort of grudge or think monarchy is a popularity contest. There are Acts of Succession to be followed.

Should he outlive The Queen, which is the normal order of things, he will be king. Given the lifelines of women in that family, he will be a very old man, but he will be king. He may not be as active as he wants and hand over many ceremonial functions to William, but he will be king.

He wants to be king. He was raised to be a king. And he knows how unkind it is to put the crown on someone as young as William. It is an act of kindness, as well as constitional demand, that Charles assend the throne and spare William the burden of kingship for as long as possible. As a prince, even a Prince of Wales, William has more freedom than he will as king. So let him enjoy his life as much as possible.

  15. When the Queen dies, Charles will become King.

It's always happened that way, apart from exceptional circumstances, (e.g. Edward VIII).

At present, there's no valid reason why it shouldn't follow the normal way of things royal.

  16. I dont think his behaviour merits him to become King. Can anyone really look up to him and trust him. I think he has made a pigs backside of everything.

  17. Lots of possibilities:  QE II will live as long as the Queen Mum and PC will be dead by then.  The public may not stand for it and demand that he pass the throne to William-which doesn't seem too far fetched because Camilla will always be loathed and there is no chance the people will accept her as Queen.  She may state she will be known as the Princess Consort if Charles becomes King but mark my word, that will all change if he does ascend because by law she will be Queen and you know full well she will expect to be such, no matter what she says now.  There is the chance to that the people will revolt and demand the monarchy be abolished.  Who knows, QE II may even decree that with her death it stops, because she knows what the country will go through with PC as King.

  18. I don't know why they say it. The monarchy is not a popularity contest - the people don't get to decide, "well I don't like him so he shouldn't be king". People just express their feelings, I guess. But Charles will follow his mother, as night follows day.

  19. In the book Diana's Boys by Christopher Andersen, it said that some psychic predicted that Charles would never become King that William would be crowned King. I'm not sure if that's the reason though...not everyone believes psychics.

  20. what the heck is your question? you wrote "do people say Pr.Charles of Wales will won't become King?"

did you mean "do people say prince charles of wales will OR won't become king?"

  21. I think his mom is pretty ticked off at him for marrying his horse, I mean Camilla.

  22. Because it's true, trust me I know.

  23. I think Charles wants to be king in the worst way,but I don't think Eliz will hand it over to him. Longevity seems to run in Eliz family,so unless she dies he won't be king. I don't think he will ever let William take over, because  Charles is so very anxious to take over, and the horse face Camilla wants to be right beside him as queen.

  24. I don't think there is much enthusiasm for Charles to become King; the preference seems to be for his eldest son to take the throne.  Charles would need to abdicate for this to happen, of course.  As to Constitutional Law..well, there isn't any as the UK doesn't have a formal written Constitution like the United States.  There's no reason why the Monarchy can't continue under either of the above outcomes... after all, it's very good for tourism.
