Why do people say doggies in converstations to other adults?

I was talking to a woman I work with and she was telling me about her "doggie" She is a grown woman. If she was talking to her dog I wouldnt care if she called him mr. doggie poo poo. But why was she using this word in a conversation to me.

Who knows?  Sometimes people see their dog as their baby and cannot seem to use grown up words.

Its ok for people to use baby talk. But not in front of full grown people. She needs to extend her vocabulary. buy her a dictionary or thesaurus for christmas. lol

Because she thinks of her dog in terms of being her baby. It always amazes me when people think of themselves as their dogs mother, calling to the dog ...come to mummy or similar. I love my dog to bits, but I have never thought of her as a child substitute, to me she is better than most people and i have special love for her. BUT getting back to your question, I bet that is why, because she thinks of the dog as her baby, doggie is baby language. x

What do you care what she calls her "Doggie". People call their dogs all kinds of silly, different things. You should hear what nicknames I have for my dogs and I'm a grown woman!That's just the way she is and what she likes to call her dog! She can call her dog whatever she sees fit! If you are that bothered by the way she talks to you about, Mr. Doggie Poo Poo, then break off the conversations all together, and you won't have to worry about it anymore! Quit being so judgemental of people! It will get you nowhere!!! There are more things in life, to focus on, that are a lot more important, than sitting there judging a person on something as simple and unimportant, as what someone chooses to call their dog!

Because that's the way she talks.  And clearly she's not concerned with your opinion of her based on her vocabulary.  If it bothers you so much, don't ask her about her Mr. Doggie poo poo anymore.

she could've say "my dog" but she chose to say "doggie".  that shows she is comfortable with you to share at the non-professional level.
