Why do people say "God will not be mocked" in response to a question mocking God?

I actually answered this question before, let me see if I can dig it up:

"I suppose they mean God will not be offended or successfully pwned by anything we say, which I suppose is a fair assertion to make when you're taunting something that doesn't exist."

It means that in the end He will pass judgment on those who mocked Him (all sinners).  He lets you say what you will now, but in the last days your tongue will cleave to the roof of your mouth and you will stand speechless in front of God and be held accountable for all your sins against Him.

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."  (Galatians 6:7)

God tells Ezekiel in a vision of the last days what will happen when those who mock Him stand before Him, "And I [God] will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb (mute), and shalt bot be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.:  (Ezekiel 3:26)

If God was really that upset by mockery, He could surely strike His mockers dead without any help from His followers.

cuz they believe that when the writers die and god kicks the everlasting **** out of them that thier point will have been made. and i personally think thats whats gunna happen.

I have never used that answer, but I think some people use it cause they mean that God (in the end) won't just let it pass by. He will judge those who have mocked Him.

I don't know. May be they like God. If someone had question about mocking my mom I might say hey don't mock my mom foo.

Because while we mocked Him and while we were yet sinners He died for us on a cross.  There is nothing one can do that can mock God; therefore, "God will not be mocked".

So, yes, you are right. Theists cannot handle the idea of god not existing
