Question:

Why do people say "Hello" when they answer the phone but say "hey" online?

  1. Because they probably figure they can be informal online. Everyone always acts different online, <<usually.

    I say Hello no matter what.


  2. I have heard it said both ways in both places.

  3. Hello is used for talking to someone you don't know know on the other side.

    Hey and Hi are used for talking to someone you know on the other side.

    People use Hi or Hey online because it is easier to type than Hello.

  4. i also use hello most of the times online.but maybe when you say hello on the phone beacuse you don't know who is calling most of the times (even if u have caller ID) while when you are chatting on the internet you know with whom so you just say hey  

  5. beacue when you are on the phone, you dont know who u are talking to. if i was onlin, it would say screen name and the real name, so you know who u are tlaking to and how to respond
