Question:

Why do people say that Motreal and BC are such great teams?

I mean, BC has won what.....5 Grey cups in 80? Years.......while the real teams like Edmonton and Winnipeg have combined to be in 24 or more Grey Cups....Even Sask has been to about 10 Grey cups while BC and Montreal in the last 20 years have combined to win 4 cups.....if even that much...BC never wins more than 1 grey cup in a row. So tell me people, especially with their losses lately, what makes you think BC has a chance with history proven against them?

  1. It's just how people look at the scores. Most people just look at their CURRENT w & l and give their opinion about the team there. These people never even care to look at the past and see just how many cups they won, or their scores then. (Not to insult anyone, but there are people who are like that ) If i were to try to determine a good team i would have looked at:

    -their current scores

-scores and standings in the past 5-20 years

    -injury reports and such

    and more...

but really, B.C and montreal aren't the best team that have ever played, or the best team(s) in the CFL today. I would consider the Esks, or the WBB, even if theyre not doing so good currently...

im saying that you cant just say that, "oh B.c and Montreal are the bst teams cuz they won a lot of their games..." because every team has a chance, and just because 2 teams have a little more wins than the others doesnt mean that the res thave no chance at all...

  2. Compared to the current crop of teams, they are the top level, no doubt.  I have never heard anyone mention the word "dynasty" when referring to either Montreal or BC, though.  I don't think any experts would suggest comparing BC to the Warren Moon lead Eskies back in the late 70s and early 80s...

However, when you go over the history of franchises, you could argue that the Alouettes were dominate in the 70s...but this is the second coming and this franchise is not the same one that was there then...so I guess they can't be compared, either.

  3. Umm, I really don't think anybody is saying that they're two of the all-time greatest CFL franchises, but as recent history shows, both teams have been Grey Cup contenders for the last five years or so.

Mind you, the Als are in somewhat of a rebuilding stage right now, but are still in the hunt in the weak Eastern Division.  BC, meanwhile, haven't been playing all that well to this point, but still have the second best record in the league.  I wouldn't be surprised if they made it back to the Grey Cup this year.

As far as I'm concerned, past history has nothing to do with how great a team is right now.  Sure, the Eskies are the league's most storied franchise, but the current squad will likely need the crossover rule to make the playoffs.  I wouldn't say that this year's team is great because Warren Moon led them to a buncha Grey Cups 25 years ago...

  4. Athough I'm a true blue B.C. fan, I must say that at one time it was just taken for granted that the Esks would at least be in the Grey cup game

  5. For what it's worth, they were the finalists of last year's Grey Cup. Therefore, as of last season they were the best teams in the West and East, respectively.

  6. Because today's team is playing not yesterday's.  History doesn't always repeat and new trails are always being blazed.  BC has more of a chance to win this year than Toronto or Hamilton right now.  As for Montreal, well by default they go to the cup often because frequently they only have mediocre teams between them and a birth in the final.

  7. They are 2 pretty good teams, but no where near Winnipeg or Edmonton dynasty levels.

  8. people are living in the present not the past

  9. Look at their record over the past 20 years.. they are a strong team in the regular season..  I don't like either team but they usually are the ones to beat

    GO RIDERS

  10. I think they say BC and Montreal are "very good" teams because they've won and been in a lot of Grey Cups of late. By the way, for BC it's five Grey Cup titles in 53 seasons so far not 80!

No CFL fan here in BC thinks that BC historically has been greater than Edmonton. We certainly think we kick Saskatchewan's butt (maybe not on the field as they are our bogey team) as far as playoff records go given the past 20 years.

You're also comparing apples and oranges. You realize BC only came into the league in 1954. Hard to be in as many Grey Cups compared to Winterpeg (est. 1930) and Edmonchuk (est. 1949...this edition of). Heck, 12 times the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were in the Grey Cup prior to 1954 so that's kind of a HUGE headstart on BC.

Man oh man, never let the facts get in the way of your argument, eh.
