  1. Glue used to be made out of hooves, not just horse, but others too.

It's not anymore, but that's the reason why the Elmers' logo is a goat.

  2. Because back in the day it was. Sadly though low grade dog food is still made from horses. Glue today is made from cow bone. It is possible some horses are used.

  3. because they r trying 2 get your goat they also say marshmellows jellow and mints r made form horsies but thats not true although i am not positive just ignore them!

  4. Horse connective tissues used to be used to make glue.  Today those tissues are more likely to turn up in dog food.  In the old days, horses were sent to the "glue factory" when they died, or were euthanized.  When a horse was very old, it was said to be ready for the glue factory.

Today, horses often go to slaughter rather than to a rendering factory.

Using the tissue of a dead horse to produce food or products is compatible with nature....a recycling of the carcass as is the case in nature.

  5. Actually, some of it still is and almost all of it used to be.  Horses are still slaughtered for non-human consumption (like pet food), and their hooves are still used to make some types of glue, along with parts from other animals, like cows.

  6. because all glue used to be made out of horse hoofs and some still is

  7. This may come as a surprise but very few if any horses end up going for pet food.  The reason is because horsemeat contains so many drugs the pet food industry no longer uses it.  Instead it is shipped to Europe for the rich Europeans to eat at $20.00 a pound because they think it is drug free and safer to eat after the BSE scare in beef.   Can't feed it to pets but fine and dandy to feed it to people.

  8. Because they're stupid.

  9. galloppal has it right, as usual!  It's the connective tissue and cartilage that the "glue" (really the gelatin, which is an ingredient) comes from.  Any animal, even you and me, can yield gelatin.

Hate to tell you this, but gelatin is found in a lot of stuff, from Jell-O to Starburst candies.  Most of it comes from pig skin, though.

  10. Some glue used for woodworking still is. When I was in violin making school, we used "hide glue". It's made from the sticky membrane under the hide. Not all hide glues are made from horses; I've seen rabbit and even fish glue, but the one we were using was from horses. Sad! :(
