Question:

Why do people say that using our cars are bad... if they give off what trees take in?

i was sat thinking, why is it bad to use our cars, if they produce Co2... if thats what tree's take in...? I know it could pollute excess Co2... but i'm sure tree's pollute excess oxygen. doesn't that affect the planet? i mean, c'mon, global warming's gunna happen anyway, no matter what we do. It'll just lead to another ice-age, which happens every 20,000 years anyway. ...there are somedays where i think it's be nicer to live, less polluted, but i don't think cars are the things doing it, so using your cars less really wouldn't make a difference.

  1. Those pro CO2 and climate change will not allow others (like yourself) to point out other facts.

You will never hear them mention below points:

    1) The earth axial tilt (pole) shift over time period.

    2) The CFCs problem, they don't want to remember the facts.

The same problem with food crisis, those pro 'The problem will be over in 10 to 20 years time.'

Will never allow you to say that world population will further increase by 10 to 20 percent by then.

It's 6.6 billion now but only 5.5 billion in the 1980s when there was a food mountain crisis.

Unless you are in power as world leaders can address the issue, else don't think about it and do just what you want to do.

    And be happy.

  2. I agree and why is it that celebrities tell us "normal folks" what to drive, when to drive, etc. when they drive V12 Lambos and Aston Martins and Ferrari's and let's not forget their private air planes that give off a h**l of alot more pollution than our cars.

As long as your car isn't falling apart and shooting off white smoke and choking the people behind with smell, it's all good!

  3. OK rather than criticise your argument i will actually make the effort of explaining the flaw.

trees do not save the planet.  actually they are carbon neutral.  trees take in Co2 but store it in themselves so when they die as the rot they let off all the carbon that they absorbed over there life time.  Except when there is lots of them and earth covers them and of course a few hundred thousand years later we dig for it and call it oil.

There are lots of reasons for global warming and actually thinking it is the human race is a touch arrogant to say the least. (when did we become that important)

an example,  gravitational pull of the planets and the spinning of the sun are neither smooth or circular.  the best way to describe the rotation of planets is a elliptic wobble.  the earth is pushed and pulled towards and away from the sun over many millions of years.  were are we at present a little closer than we are normally.  are we moving closer or away? nobody knows we didn't know we were on a planet till about a thousand years ago so were we are in that cycle is anybodies guess and that is just one example;e of the complexity we are talking about.  hope that helps but probably not.

  4. there are millions of cars, but there aren't as many  trees. if you imagine maybe 1 car to 2 trees, then you see why its o bad. there aren't enough. plant a few trees and forget it.

  5. people say cars are bad because they are emitting way more CO2 than the world's plant life can eliminate. each litre of gas you burn unloads 2.5 kilograms of CO2 into the environment. and there are billions of cars in the world. this is too much CO2 for our ever-decreasing forests to handle.

The CO2 which can't be handled by our plantlife then remains in the atmosphere, where it traps the light from the sun, slowly heating our planet. it is also destroying our ozone layer, which protects all organisms from extreme levels of radiation from the sun.

all of this gas burning worry will end soon though, because scientists have made an educated estimate that the world will run out of gasoline in about 60 years. But don't worry, by that time, we will have invented a better type of fuel that is less harmful to the environment. Car dealerships are already starting to manufacture cars that run on hydrogen and compressed air.

    hope that helps!

  6. This is probably TOO MUCH INFO, so I doubt than anyone will read it all . . . .

WELL, iBETH, I THINK THAT A LITTLE MORE KNOWLEDGE CAN HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING, AND WHY YOU DO NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND . . .  SO, HERE GOES.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT WE ARE CUTTING DOWN THE TREES, AND STILL DRIVING THE CARS!

Now, don't get me wrong, I do not mind waiting 20k-years for an ice age, but as the climactic is accelerating, that is only a dream.  Haven't you noticed all the storms, and floods, and tornadoes?? Etc.Etc. well, I will tell you a secret, this will get worse, if we do not do A LOT, AND RIGHT NOW!  And even then, we can no longer guarantee that it is not already too late.

SOCIETY HAS ALWAYS MADE EXCUSES FOR IT'S WRONGS, AND THEN SPEND A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY CONVINCING YOUNG PEOPLE THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD HAVE DONE ANYWAY . . . .  AND . . . MANY GET DUPED INTO BELIEVING THAT!

ON ONLY HAS TO READ HISTORY, REGARDING HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT, ETC.

READ UP ON OUR GREAT "DUST BOWL" (SEE LINK BELOW).  THE GREAT LAKES (SEE LINK BELOW). ETC. ETC. AND YOU WILL SEE HOW WE HAVE POISONED THE PLANET.

MAY I ASK WHO YOU THINK IS DOING MOST OF THE POLLUTING IN THE WORLD?  YOU MAY WANT TO READ UP AT THIS LINK - SEE BELOW = POLLUTION

AND! Few people understand that A LOT OF OUR OXYGEN comes from the water plankton, etc..  And we are "killing" that too, through pollution.

Are you beginning to understand that this is all A COMBINATION OF FACTORS?

Cars (and all INTERNAL COMBUSTION MACHINES USING DIESEL AND OTHER FOSSIL FUELS) ALSO GIVE OFF A VERY HIGH PERCENT OF CARBON MONOXIDE!  (Eg. CO)

TREES DO NOT USE CO!! (Above)

JET AIRCRAFT ARE EVEN WORSE THAN CARS!

IT IS ALL OUT OF BALANCE!  CARS "BREATHE OUT" AN ENORMOUSLY INCREASED AMOUNT OF CO2 COMPARED TO HORSES, OXEN AND COWS, THAT WERE THE MAIL MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION ONLY 150 YEARS AGO!

CO2 AND SULPHUR IN THE AIR TURN TO ACIDS, AND THE ACIDS KILL THE TREES, AND THERE IS LESS BREATHABLE AIR, AND THAT MAKES MORE CO2 AND, AND, AND, AD. INF.

DO YOU SEE A VISCOUS CYCLE HERE?

SO U C, THERE IS A VERY BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 150 YEARS AND 20,000 YEARS.

If you live in a city, you are probably so used to the poisonous air you breathe in that you no longer smell it.

To be honest, it is probably not the car's fault!  It is the quantity that does it!

    BUT THE PLANES!!!!!!

IT IS NO FUN, NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE.  DID YOU EVER ASK SOMEONE?

SO YOU SEE, IBETH, IT DOES MATTER.  IF YOU DO NOT CARE, YOU MAY NOT HAVE ANY GRANDCHILDREN WHO CAN.  CAUSE THERE WON'T BE ANY, ANYWHERE!

  7. Check your facts, I think you may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick.

  8. CO2 Enrichment

CO2 enrichment to increase plant growth and yields (up to 40%) is a well proven method of crop production which can benefit even the smallest grower and is widely used on a commercial scale.

The presence of oil has significant social and environmental impacts, from accidents and routine activities such as seismic exploration, drilling, deforestation, and generation of polluting wastes not produced by other alternative energies. Nitrogen oxide NOx also emitted through burning of fossil fuels contributes to acid rain.

A hydrogen economy is proposed to solve the ill effects of using hydrocarbon fuels in transportation, and other end-use applications where the carbon is released to the atmosphere.

  9. You are mixing lots of conflicting pieces of information and coming up with a rather disjointed and illogical conclusion.

The reason why CO2 is a problem is that we are dumping too much into the air too quickly. The trees  (and other plants) can't use up the CO2 fast enough to keep pace with our production of it.

CO2 in the atmosphere cause the sun's energy to be trapped and cause average global temperature to rise.

The result of a rapid change in global temperatures is that weather patterns can become unstable resulting in more and stronger storms and floods. In addition the increased temperatures can increase the amount of desert in the world.

Many of these events can cause large numbers of deaths from drowning, starvation and disease.

Would it make a difference if it was your friends and family who were starving or had drowned?

Would you still think it would be nicer?

There are people who are starving right now because of the increasing droughts in many African nations and others who are being made homeless right now because their islands are disappearing below rising sea levels caused by melting ice at the north and south poles, because of global warming

First the neigh sayers said global warming wasn't really happening.

When the evidence became overwhelming they changed their tune and started claiming that it was a natural event and what we did made no difference.

Know we have evidence of a direct link between industrial growth and global warming the neigh sayers are desperately trawling around to find some other excuse for not accepting responsibilities for their actions.

People whose self interests have made them use denial tactics to avoid responsibility for their actions have existed throughout history.

From the genocide's of pre-history through the pollution of rivers like the 'great stink' in the river Thames in Victorian London to the holes in the Ozone layer and now global warming. They will continue to do so until the end of mankind, I suspect.

After all, it is a lot easier to think of an excuse that absolves you of any responsibility than it is to accept responsibility and radically change the way you live.

  10. That makes sense, but we produce so much more Co2 than the trees can handle, and deforestation doesen't help much either.

  11. #1. Yes it would be nicer to live with less pollution. And healthier too and less animals/plants would die. Better all round.

#2. The CO2 in oil and coal are locked up underground until we dig them up and burn them releasing the CO2 into the air. Trees etc can't keep up so the CO2 accumulates and causes global climate change. So, cars, power stations, industry all produce more CO2 than the planet can absorb.

#3. Yes, the climate historically runs in cycles of hot and cold but the climate change we are causing is new and different. It changes habitat for wildlife and don't be confused here, we depend on a huge range of wildlife for our survival. Warming at the poles melts the ice and raises global sea levels. Something like 80% of the human race lives within 40km of the sea/ocean. Some parts of the coast are only a metre or so above sea level and will just disappear displacing millions of people. The weather will become more extreme, a hotter atmosphere leads to stronger winds and storms.

I think there are two ways of looking at this:

    A) Its morally wrong of us to exploit the worlds resources wastefully with no thought for the mess of pollution and damaged ecology we pass on to future generations.

    B) We're messing up the place we live in and its going to be unpleasant. Think hurricane katrina, food shortages, refugees, heat waves, droughts. You get the picture.

We've been lucky to have been born into one of the Earth's more pleasant climates. Its been much much colder and its been hotter. We've had the bit in the middle.

  12. While it's true that the trees need CO2 to produce food, the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are outstanding, and highly detrimental. The number of trees and plants we have simply isn't enough to absorb the rising levels of CO2 we're producing, and they're certainly not enough to produce 'excess oxygen'.

While there's lots of information about when the next ice age is, it's not for several thousand years at the very earliest. Considering the increase in temperature over the past 200 years, by the time an ice age comes around (if ever), we may all be dead.

Although one car doesn't produce enough CO2 to burn up the Earth, it's still contributing. Cars are the single largest carbon dioxide producer on the planet. So yes, it honestly really does make a difference.

  13. CO2 is Carbon Dioxide

Cars give off Carbon Monoxide ... (CO1 i think)

the trees choke on that stuff
