I have watched boxing all my life and I watched the first 2 or 3 Ultimate Fighting Championships and i've also watched a few more MMA shows on cable..........I just don't get why the topic of MMA or Boxing keeps coming up..........I think that if MMA survives long term that that doesn't mean that boxing is any less because of it..........they are just too different for the success of one to have a bearing on the other...........what do you think???

  1. I hear ya. I don't get the comparison either. Two totally different animals.

All I can say is one is trying to pull attention from another by creating this ridiculous comparison and even a blind man can see it.

What kills me is the people who will openly compare the two and say boxing is boring but can't name 1 mma fighter and don't even know who Bernard Hopkins is.

    boxing will live on forever.

  2. The MMA folks are obsessed with Boxing, but not vice versa.  MMA industries are trying to grow their brand and think they can do it at boxing's expense.  You see it reflected here with MMA knuckleheads posting here not to ask a Q, but to try to make a statement.

  3. Yes, you never here them say that kickboxing or K1 is going to disappear. A lot of it is bravado and hubris. MMA is gaining popularity so fans and some of those involved in the sport feel the need to rag on boxing as it's the most established combat sport in the world.

I'm a huge fan of both sports. Admittedly, I watch a lot more mma these days as I can access it more easily (internet) but I still love boxing. I couldn't believe that my friend, who is a big mma fan and doesn't like boxing, had never heard of the fabulous four. He hadn't even heard of Marvelous Marvin Hagler! Unbelievable.

  4. those who say that don't know what they are talking about

  5. i'm 26 and i was raised watching boxing, and trained from ages 15-21 at roy jones facility in pensacola. now i live in moline il wich is 3 miles from pat miletich mma camp i like both sports, but i think the mma crowd is the one who said started this boxing is going to fade crazy idea. dana white, zuffa brothers, joe big dummy rogine, even pat miletich in my local news paper went out of his way to slander boxing for a whole page in the sport section. boxing makes to much money world wide to fade away, mma is the new "thing" right now. I like both but i pick and choose between the two which one ill watch, because not all fights are good in either sport. dana white and don king have alot of the same qualitys they say every fights going to be the best ever. but thats not the case

  6. I could never figure out that one either, they act like the two sports are mutually exclusive or in competition with each other.  Just because baseball is popular, that doesn't spell the end of hockey, and football doesn't compete with basketball.  In my book MMA and boxing can exist side by side and both can thrive.  I can't speak for all fans, but I like both.  I will always favor boxing over MMA, but I still enjoy both.  You can be a fan of many sports, baseball and basketball don't force you to choose between them, nor does football compete with hockey.  The same should hold true between MMA and boxing.

  7. Thats what I been saying ever since the whole MMA craze came about. I dont know why people act like its either boxing or MMA, not both.

One major reason for this being said, is UFC President Dana White. To push the UFC, in many magazines he called Boxing "a boring sport" and "that MMA is the future". He also called boxers "not real athletes". Then, MMA fans just starting jumping on that bandwagon after watching one boxing match. Prolly didnt even see one Marquez-Vasquez match.
