Why do people spit in public and what can we do 2 stop em?

That is pretty disgusting. I guess the government could make it illegal but i think thats pretty extreme. I guess the best thing to do is ignore it and if someone you know does it tell them how gross they are

I hate it intensely, but I don't think they are conscious it offends others. Maybe OHS can get in on the act with the slip and liability claim or Viral/bacteria threat to health etc.

I don't mind people spitting in public if something is annoying their mouth but why do they always have to make a loud noise as if to say "here it comes everybody!"

But it's only a minor thing, a law should definately not be made against it(unless you hit someone with the spit).  Otherwise it would open up the way for introduction silly laws to restrict people's behaviours just because some other people don't like it.

where else do you want us to spit? in your mouth?.. we dont have a choice.. and aint nothing people can do about that. unless they want to give out tickets for each time you spit in public... thats nature man aka life.. d**n.. unless anytime you want to spit you spit in your pocket book, napkin or travel with a bucket haha..

I think it is so disgusting it makes me feel sick.

I wish we were like Singapore, where they have on the spot fines, or imprisonment.  That city is so clean.

But our government has problems implementing anything, let alone a person/s spitting.

The only reason probably any human being would spit, is to remove some sort of anything from their mouth. eg) grass, phlemn and so on. i think that it is impossible for anyone or any law or government to prevent people spitting in public, it is impossible to have and keep watch of australias 20mil + population to stop them from spitting. i think that it is only manners not to spit in public, as it is in fact breaking the law. yes, it is an australian law to spit in public. i think that if people need to spit, go to the nearest bathroom and spit in the toilet. If worse comes to worse, than just find an area where no one would walk or on a grass are where no one goes and spit in private without anyone noticing. same thing with farting.
