Why do people still support politicians with donations but they are totally disillusioned with their politics?

If we could "dry" out the politicians, we may gain more power and say.

*Most* are only "disillusioned" with the politicians from the other side of the aisle.  They follow the party platform of their own side blindly.

Sweet but naive idea.

The "people" as you say constitute small change that is used to buy drinks and snacks for the weekend.

The real money comes from lobbies and companies, and you better believe that those guys are not disillusioned with the guy they gave money to.

When the time comes, they collect.

They're supporting the candidates they believe in, because the last 6 years have shown us what happens when nobody cares about a Presidential election.
