  1. So the head will sit flush with the finish.

  2. good question- flat head screws suck.

  3. Price.  The next best would be philips, then star/hex and then Square drive bits (arguably the best bits to use, and can handle high torque) are still expensive.

  4. Flat head screws have a definite purpose.  Whether they are slotted, Phillips, torx, or anything else.  They are made to hold tight and not stick up above the material surface. They make the job look neet.

  5. maybe they own only have flat blade screwdrivers or maybe they are suckers for punishment..!!

  6. Lots of older equipment etc have them Not seen that often any more..  Now there are square drives . phillips, pozi drive

and others. We should all use square drives . they are the best

  7. Do you mean flat head or slot head? Not the same thing at all, though many people call a slot a flat head. If you're referring to flat head screws, the kind that have a head which is flat on top, people use them so they'll sit flush with whatever they're going into. If you mean slot screws, the ones with a groove that you put a screwdriver into, the only reason I can think of is that in some applications, they look better. You can have flat head screws with any number of screwdriver patterns in the top. I never use anything but Robertsons (that's a square drive to you Americans) in wood except if looks matter. When Phillips screws come in a package with hardware, I throw them away and use Robertsons instead.

  8. because the guy that sells flat bladed s***w drivers needs to make a couple bucks too !!

  9. And why is that an important part of your life that it bothers you?   With everything happening in the world flat head screws are an issue?   Seek help.

  10. i've wondered that too.  if installed correctly, phillips head screws sit just as flush to a finished product as a flat head s***w.  phillips are easier to s***w in with a manual screwdriver.  hmm.  it might be a conspiracy.
