  1. Well, when people endeavor on their own path they seem to enjoy the solitude. This is the feeling of euphoria when you have the freedom to choose. But many people have so little time to teach themselves and are not as capable.  On the other hand, private lessons are less time consuming and more suited for beginners. Not everyone has talent.

  2. Not everyone is able to teach themselves every skill, and learning from someone who has done considerable research in their field will often benefit you much more.

Who says that self-taught skills give you more finesse?  I've never heard that...self-education is an important skill, but often it can only take you so far.  You either need excellent research skills (that are learned from someone else) or incredible amounts of talent in that area.

  3. Some skills, you cannot teach yourself--or would be a waste of time to learn by trial and error.  (Imagine teaching yourself the numbers, and their order.)

In fact, I'm not certain that self taught skills give more finesse--depends on which skills.
