Why do people talk about Wanderlei Silva like he is great?

like what has he done in UFC? nothing to me, i don't get it will someone please educate me about Wanderlei Silva

He was the most dominant light heavy weight of all time in PRIDE, go watch some old Wanderlei Silva fights from PRIDE on youtube and enjoy

Wanderlei Silva destroyed Rampage (Current UFC Champ) twice. If you are a fight fan you should try to branch outside the UFC because there are a ton of great fighters and fights you should definitely watch including Wanderlei's Pride fights. I guarantee you will become a fan after seeing him kick, stomp, and knee the h**l out of people. OVGuide.com has a lot of great MMA sites where you can watch fights and PPVs for free. Check it out.

There are 2 UFC's

The first one is the orginal with the start up company that had real fighters.

The second was is with Dana The Big Mouth White talkin smack. And most of the fighters are honestly not very good.

That is why there is a need for smack talk. To over-shadow the talent.

Wanderlei I believe was once in the UFC many years ago, and left.  He went overseas to fight in Pride.  In Pride he was a success. Beating Dan Henderson, Beating Quinton Jackson... the list goes on.

Since his return to the UFC, he has only had 2 matches.

The first was just a stand up, toe to toe punching contest.

With Chuck Liddel and his arm reach taking advantage and being victorious.  The second match was against Keith Jardine (who beat Chuck). Wanerlei KO Jardin in the 1st Rd.

It is an impressive Knock Out!

Wanderlei Silva is known for his fierce aggressive behavior.

His knees, his elbows, his chin, his heart.  He is a great fighter.

It is all about his time in Pride. The guy was a legend over there. And just because his UFC career is less than Stellar, both of his fights in the Octagon were extremely exciting. The fact that he brings so much excitment to the fight with his staredowns and unorthodox punches makes him a fan favorite.

He was Pride middlewieght champion for like 7 years. He was dominant and destroyed many top fighters such as Rampage, Sakuraba, Guy Mezger, and others. He also won the Pride 2003 Grand prix tournament. He is known for his aggressive brawling style which is why he is nicknamed the axe murderer. He is one of the greatest fighters of the last 10 years. Wanderlei Silva was once the UFC's middleweight champion. He's beaten Sakuraba, Dan Henderson, and the current UFC light heavyweight champion twice. Read some stats, look up some video, you'll see that he's pretty good. There's more out there than just the UFC. He was a dominant fighter in Japan, and still is a dominant fighter, and a factor in the LHW division.

Hes a beast BB in BJJ some of the best MT in UFC. You need to look at what he's done in Pride he was the champ for 5 years, beat Rampage twice both by brutal KO.  Watch some of his Pride fights you'll see why everyone thinks he's great because he is.

MMA was highly popular in Japan long, long before it gained mainstream popularity in the US.  That's where the money was, so that's where most of the fighters went.
