Because they have nothing better else to do and they are scared to say it to the person's face whom they are talking about!!

~~This is how they get attention and inflate their own egos. Boy, try confronting anyone like that and you sure get a wimpy, embarrassed, and bumbling idiot I like someone who has enough integrity to say something right to my face when they have a problem with me. Simple to talk it out and resolve the issue. But people who can do that, don't have to try to "get attention and inflate their own egos"  :)
