20% is a good tip not the best but good enough servers only get $2.13 an hour. if you cant afford to go out go to a place where people dont have to serve you. and teach your kids not to run around like there on the playground.servers are running around with very hot food in there hands. and its not cute when your kids are crying and screaming and people that are paying to eat in peace. take them to mcdonalds. its not cute when they jump up and down in the chair either people have to sit there. and when your arguing with your spouse dont talk nasty to the server.go home with that mess!!!

  1. People think 15% is a good tip because it's basically the minimum. It's good for their wallets.

On the other hand, I wholeheartedly agree that a great part of the American population is indescribably rude and annoying when they go out with their little uneducated brats, and even worse at taking their problems out on people who don't deserve it.

  2. Well, in Chicago the tax rate is fairly high (9% or so). My rule of thumb is always to double the tax, and then add more to that. Double tax is the minimum for me - when service is p**s poor.

Generally speaking though, 20% - 25% is sound. It comes out to usually be a couple of extra dollars at an average restaurant. If you cannot afford to leave an extra $2 - $5 for a tip, then you shouldn't be going out to eat.

Think of it in the waiter's perspective - some really do their best to make your experience enjoyable. The tip is how you reward their generosity.

  3. dude 20 percent is a ok tip 25 percent is better. I sometimes get 25 percent often. but i know how u feel having been tipped 15 percent or less gets me mad. When i did all the work for them and thats how they treat the servers. Its bascially i want to tell them dont be rude and just tip good tips.
