  1. There is no question that the US was founded upon the principle of freedom (“liberty”). The preamble to the Constitution stipulates that its specific purpose was to help to “ensure the blessings of liberty.” By implication, “liberty” was a given. That is the natural state of man. And liberty cannot exist without unequivocal individual responsibility. A well organized society with strict limits on the powers of government is the ideal system for a free people. It allows them to achieve the rewards inherent in the responsible exercise of their liberties.  It is only man and the governments he has created that have usurped the liberties with which the people were born. I will admit that the US is not the model of liberty that she once was. Since the New Deal Americans have earnestly and consistently traded freedom for security whenever the opportunity arose. That is the main flaw in Socialism. As Faust learned, Mephistopheles will gladly grant you anything you wish, but always at a price.

  2. Word search your online Constitution for the word "freedom" or "liberty." America is "free" in the sense that no other country governs it. It's a patriotic reference to the Revolutionary War. As to its citizens the Constitution also grants a few freedoms. We're exercising them as we speak.

  3. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION. WHY IS IT A FREE COUNTRY AMERICA NOTHING FOR FREE. NOT EVEN THE AIR WE BREATHE IS FREE CAUSE WE PAY IT LATER ON. I HATE GOVERNMENT FOR WHAT THEY DO TO PEOPLE THAT JUST COME TO THIS COUNTRY TO DESTROY PEOPLES LIVES. I AM AN AMERICAN IN CASE YOUR WONDERING BUT THAT'S MT TAKE.

  4. The expression "free country" means a lot of different things.  Some believe the U.S. is a free country because the constitution guarantees certain rights, like freedom of the press and freedom of religion.  That doesn't mean much, because the constitution of the former Soviet Union also guaranteed those rights.  Some believe the U.S. is a free country because the government doesn't dictate what people do, or when they do it.  Of course, that doesn't mean much either, since the government requires people to do all sorts of things, like pay taxes, and forbids all sorts of other actions, like robbing banks.  What makes the U.S. a "free country" is that most people, most of the time, feel comfortable within the limits of what government permits and the demands that it makes.  Compared to a dictatorship in which the general population feels constantly controlled and manipulated, that makes us a "free country."

  5. We have freedom of many areas that you cannot dream about..if you traveled more you would know that America is

free if you have the  means..it does not mean freedom from working and freedom to shout fire in a movie theater..

judgment must be tempered with common sense...but you are free to leave the US..have fun in Socialistic Europe or Asia

  6. you shoulda paid more attention in 7-8th grade social studies. or heck even 5th grade social studies.

  7. The freedoms are for the individuals, as stated in the Bill of Rights, which is considered part of the constitution.

  8. It may not be perfect, but it is better than most.

Maybe that's why there are more people crossing into our

    boders, than going out. <}:-})

  9. I would suggest anyone wanting to find the answer to this one just go skirting around the World.  They will be in for a rude awakening to see how other country's and its police force or government really treats its peoples.

  10. It is considered a free country because the constitution

    1) Acknowledges God given rights: speech, religion, defense (bearing arms), etc...

    2) All power comes from the people to the government via the constitution...all power not explicitly given is kept by the people

    This is freedom

  11. Because the Constitution in the bill of rights and other Amendment give us the freedom to do most things.
