Why do people think Spaniards aren't "white"?

Question

I would tell them to look at a picture of Tom Daley from Great Britain and make them tell me he isn't white either, since he's darker than most Spaniards:

I know. Spaniards are white. Everyone will say "well the Moors" but that has nothing to do with anything. Spaniards are Spaniards for the most part. When people talk about Filipinos, they don't say "well Spaniards and Chinese came to the Phillipines so they're mixed." Spanish people are white. European is white.

Because they're ignorant. They hear Spain, and then they hear they speak Spanish, so they automatically assume they're "Hispanic", or some kind of magical race.

If they checked up on their history, they wouldn't think something so absurd

Tony manero you are generalizing by saying all Americans are like this. Where I grew up we were taught that Spaniards are white. And we treated everyone equal with no regards to race or cultural background. I'm sorry you grew up in such a backwards place.

Right or wrong, Americans generalize anyone that speaks Spanish as being Hispanic.

So I have the correct answer to the question. You knew the answer all along. I am glad I could be of help. So someone from Madrid is lumped into to someone that lives in Honduran Mud Hut or cave! Americans don't treat Hispanics as being white. Since the 70s, they were removed from being white. No kidding.

Because they're stupid and never paid any attention in school. What color are the nearby French and Italian who have the same ancestors?

Want an example? Check the person right below me. Penelope Cruz is of gypsy ancestry, which explains her funny look. Now, if somebody paid any attention, they would know about the Gypsies that live all over Europe, and would already know that they are not a native, ethnic people.
