  1. The man who started the Latter Day Saints' cult, Joseph Smith, said he had a revelation that he should take more than one wife, that he should have many spiritual wives.  Brigham Young, who lead the Mormons after Smith's death, had 16 wives and 57 children.

There are many who still follow the Principle as it is called.  These people belong to the FLDS which is the fundamentalist Latter Day Saints.  They are Mormons and to call them not Mormons would be like saying Orthodox Jews are not Jews.

  2. People love to hear sordid things about certain topics and polygamy is one of them.  Even though polygamy was abolished by the mainstream LDS church, the stigma still survives and it doesn't help that offshoots of the LDS church still practice it......

  3. I think it's like any stereotype - it happens, it becomes associated with a particular group of people, and it sticks. It's a hurtful stereotype, because obviously not every Mormon person believes that polygamy is a good practice (and contrary to popular belief, the Bible does not condone it). So, in short, it's just a stereotype that has become associated with the Mormon people, though, like any stereotype, it does not represent or describe all of the Mormon people, by far. Hope this helped.

  4. Mormon church manual paints polygamist Young as monogamist....here is an INTERESTING ARTICLE...

Mormonism believes in polygamy in their celestial kingdom (highest level of mormn heaven)...all the polygamy of the past is up there polulating their own planest with spirit offspring. All the wives with their one husband...

When the mormon prophet w. woodruff said that god stopped polygamy here on Earth,(that is earth law not heavenly law) does not mean that it stops in the mormon heaven....

the FLDS is the church that continues to practice polygamy here on earth and kept going with it.....

Many mormon leaders of the past had many wives.

Joseph smith had 34, 11 who were already married...as young as 14. j.smith also said an angel with a sword would kill him if certain girls would not marry him.

Brigham Young had 35 to 50 wives and 57 kids!

now for leaders of the mormon church .....that quite a statement...

Most polygamy in the ck is as follows..

If a temple worthy mormon man, wife dies, that he was sealed to , he can remarry and have them both in mormon heaven (ck)

Also single temple worth wemon of the mormon church , when they die..they will be sealed to another man that already has a wife...

    make sence....weird I know...
